ConocoPhillips (COP) Tuesday rejected the terms laid down by the Iraqi Oil Ministry to operate the Bai-Hassan oil field.
Conocophillips had earlier Tuesday teamed up with two Chinese oil companies, China Petroleum & Chemical Corp., or Sinopec, (SNP) and CNOOC Ltd. (0883.HK), to bid for the field in the first round of auctions for eight oil and gas fields in Iraq.
The consortium was seeking $26.70 for each extra barrel of oil produced. The Iraqi Oil Ministry only offered $4 a barrel.
"We are going to refer the bidding results of [the] Bai-Hassan oil field to the Iraqi cabinet to decide," Oil Minister Hussain al-Shahristani said.
