American Eagle Comments on AFA Picketing FORT WORTH, Texas, May 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- American Eagle Airlines issued the following statement in response to informational picketing by Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) in various airports. "We are very proud of our flight attendants and believe they do an outstanding job caring for the safety and comfort of our customers. We agree that our flight attendants deserve raises. We have been negotiating with AFA for over 36 months to reach a contract that allows the company to attract and retain good flight attendants and keeps Eagle competitive with other regional airlines," said Peter M. Bowler, President - American Eagle. "We have given the AFA negotiating committee a comprehensive proposal that provides pay increases as well as enhancements in the areas of scheduling, training and expenses. We are continuing negotiations under the guidance of the National Mediation Board (NMB) with the goal of reaching an agreement as quickly as possible." The American Eagle contract with AFA became amendable in September 2002, with negotiations beginning May 2001. The company requested mediation from the NMB in September 2003, and the first session under mediation was held in November 2003. American Eagle currently employs 1,575 flight attendants.
