so we finally have a definite date:

Vietnam to formally join WTO on January 11. Vietnam will formally become the 150th member of the World Trade Organization on January 11, officials said Tuesday.

thanks..... VOF went shooting up earlier today - but has subsequently dropped back a bit. therefore VNH has gained more in % terms than VOF today. The nav announcement for VOF came out today - and it means the share price for VOF was at a 50% premium to the latest nav. I think VOF's % premium won't be sustained - but if VNH was at an equivalent premium now, then VNH share price would be around 2.98 !!

still not too bad on one month.... and a nice little tickup on the SP, again. Much prefer a gradual rise on top of steadily rising asset values than anything too dramatic!

not a great nav increase last month - only 2.5%. Won't complain too much if they average that increase (sterling wise) over the next few years - however,would like to see a greater nav increase for this month ...

Also, as it's a EuroClear stock then some brokers won't deal in it, others will add a charge of around £20 on the purchase and sell (in addition to normal dealing charges). Plus there are currency exchange charges to take in to account. So most small trades will be 'uneconomic'.

I know TDWaterhouse do deal in it without charging more than their normal transaction rates - and they seem to give reasonably good exchange rates. So TDW would be reasonably 'economic' when dealing VNH - don't know if there are any more brokers out tere that also allow VNH trades at normal rates / reasonable exchange rates.

there seem to be very few smaller trades in this share, most seem to be in the multithousands. some people buying but not the small traders - perhaps not within their radar sights as yet, or just difficult to trade.

Think the share price of Vietnam funds might have stabilized for a while. Let's see what happens macroeconomic wise now. Also as VNH is $ based then let's 'hope' that £ doesn't keep rising at present rate. But medium/long term I still feel Vietnam is an excellent country specific investment.

huntie2 .... as they're a EuroClear stock then most on-line brokers don't deal in them. Some others deal but add an additional charge of around £20. Only one I know that deals in them at their standard (phone dealing) rate is TDWaterhouse - and TDW will give you the option of a $ or £ limit price and keeping them in a £ or $ part of your nominee account.

The United States has removed Vietnam from a list of countries which it says severely violate religious freedom.....

.... a US bill to normalise trade relations with Vietnam failed to get approval in Congress..... Another attempt to pass the bill is expected to be made later this week.
