03/10/2015 13:42 | Have added a couple of tranches this week, averaging down as still somewhat 'underwater'. Given the number of announcements re capex cutbacks and reduced US rig count ongoing production declines will start to erode the surplus oil stocks leading in due course to price hikes. | m_k_hubbert
03/10/2015 10:00 | Iran has issued permits to France's Total and Anglo-Dutch Shell to open 200 gas stations in Tehran and other Iranian cities, Head of Iranian Society of Gas Station Owners (ISOGSO) Bijan Haj Mohammadreza said Friday. MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the Iran Daily newspaper, negotiations on the issue of the specific locations of the gas stations have begun. Up to now, all gas stations in Iran belonged to the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC). The situation changed after Iran and the P5+1 group of world powers — including Russia, the United States, China, France and Britain plus Germany — reached a deal in July to monitor and limit Tehran's nuclear program in exchange for the easing of international sanctions, which opened the way to increased energy and weapons sales. 02/10/2015 11:36 | Ever heard of the Yom Kippur war? A prime example of how political events can affect the supply demand equation. | imperial3
01/10/2015 23:11 | Oh dear, and we all thought this oil business was all about supply and demand! | moneysage

01/10/2015 15:43 | Russia is bombing the Free Syrian Army trained by the CIA. US and Saudi on one side, Russia the other side both bombing in Syria. Wouldn't it be interesting if sanctions against Russia were to include gas? | whiskeyinthejar

01/10/2015 14:18 | if things get heated in the middle East we might see oil spike, another conflict there is not great for the locals but, might see my share value rise......every cloud. wllm | wllmherk
01/10/2015 10:59 | My understanding is that the plan to divest of the order of £30billion of assets post the BG merger | kkclimber56
01/10/2015 10:11 | Thinking the same thing re divestments....... | redips2
01/10/2015 09:23 | You could argue the board are capable of making fluid dynamic decisions re Arctic drilling. A good move which takes away the risk and further expense given the current oil price. I wonder if there will be any news regarding divestments shortly.... | supermarky
01/10/2015 00:49 | I think it also boils down to opportunity cost. Let's face it, they can probably think about picking up some oilies that have decent assets but are cash strapped. I am sure that is not lost on any of the majors. No, makes sense to stick the Arctic on the back burner, so to speak. | fabius1
30/9/2015 17:52 | The drilling season in Artic is very short and Shell had delays with starting. Problem with safety ship IIRC. So in July they wanted to see through the drilling season and review at the end, which is now. I think this was sensible but I agree that if they had said we're going to drill again next summer it would have shown poor judgement. So not viable at current poo, but Exxon say the Arctic is the region with the world’s largest remaining undiscovered conventional oil and gas resources. Possible to see Artic oil heating up again sometime. | whiskeyinthejar
30/9/2015 17:23 | kkclimber56 30 Sep'15 - 16:45 - 4264 of 4265 0 0 Whilst it would have been preferable for the Alaska well to discover an elephant field I would rather it came in as a dud than something that resulted in the decision to pour another few billion into some more holes. Just at the moment Shell needs cash not only to fund the BG deal but also to prop up the dividend which is now looking more secure than it did a week ago. I am happy to hold although i wish i had bought at these prices rather than prices north of £22 ------ Kkc, you won't know what the well found. | 11_percent
30/9/2015 17:07 | Agree with that kk, much prefer they are out, the risk profile will increase enough with BG - just a little difficult to reconcile the rapid change of tone within one month. | essentialinvestor

30/9/2015 13:37 | Agree they are paying too much - there are now loads of tiddlers out there could snap up really cheap | ttg100
30/9/2015 13:08 | Unfortunately the rapid about turn on Arctic drilling has lead to some questioning the quality of decision making. In August Shell were uber bullish on the region, I hope the risk/reward analysis on the BG acquisition is of a higher quality. | essentialinvestor
