I make it 34,578,248 shares fully diluted here.

That is a market cap when fully diluted of $311m or £195m.

Now look at the January 2014 presentation on the Medgenics website at:

You will see that the second generation biopump has effectively failed. E.g.

- Slide 13 "Clinical profile of the first generation EPODURE Biopump was
considered excellent except for durability of effect Decision taken to develop second generation Biopump" (emphasis added)

You can also see this from their aims for the next 12 months which are now effectively to reinitiate clinical trials with the new vector, see slide 19.

The company also has the temerity to describe this as a second generation Biopump. It is not. The first generation failed to work sufficiently in Phase I trials in 2003-4, see the AIM admission document at page 17:

The second generation clearly is inadequate and now we are onto the as yet unproven in humans third generation.

Anyhow, regardless as to the pedigree of the management, a market cap of $311m USD for a third generation treatment not yet tried in a human is madness.

Look at the end results for this company:

First gen biopump - failed
Second gen biopump - failed
Third gen biopump - not yet tested in humans
Hepatitus biopump - effectively shelved because competition has succeeded
Haemophilia biopump - ditched by Baxter
Orphan drug biopump - promised for years but no deals and no trial started

The only thing that this company has shown it can do so with aplomb so far is to raise money and to issue options and warrants like confetti diluting the ordinary shareholder massively. $311m market cap fully diluted is madness.

I'm not saying that Medgenics will fail. Just that it is far from the slam dunk many consider it to be and it has an awful lot of growing to do to justify its position.

Look too at the slides at slide 19. There is nothing of massive value to shareholders expected in H1 14. I'm quite frankly amazed at the recent rise up.

No vested interest here or intent to do the company down. The issuance of options and warrants all the time has permanently written me out of the stock.

Someone just paid 521p a share, 10p over the ask for £10k worth of stock.

Seems to have taken a break over the pond and can't see this moving to the next level up until news is released but hopefully we do not have to wait too long for that.

Its interesting that this rise has pretty much gone unnoticed over here even though we are in the top 10 movers today.

The change late last year to Oriel Securities who were appointed to act as sole broker to the company and nominated adviser may have something to do with the rise as I expect they have been out selling the company to their clients.

Oriel Securities have probably released a new broker note and expect big things to happen this year. Also we will be coming up to the 2 year anniversary of the extra financing through Maxim and they will be watching this closely.

Nice open today. I wonder if some of the money leaving emerging markets will find its way into biotech?

I've traded this successfully a couple times but ended up stuck with a few at £6 bought late 2012. I've kept an eye on the share price action since and it definitely has a more buoyant feel about it now than it has for a long time. I'd love to see history repeat itself with another £9 spike ;)

Finished up 5.5% last night in US and now at a two year high just below $8 a share. Its possible the company will announce an update soon on the US Trails.

The last time it went passed $8 it quickly moved up to $10 a share so any positive news here could be very timely. Especially as the markets are struggling

See post 363 for more info on this but Amgen are now cutting 200 jobs in Colorado where they produce Epogen. Last year Omontys, the first serious competition to its Amgen's anemia drug franchise, had to be yanked from the market by developer Affymax (AFFY) and partner Takeda. The recall came after nearly 20 patients had severe allergic reactions and three of them died. But with new drugs coming to the market and biosimilars expected to reach the U.S. next year, the handwriting has been on the wall for Epogen, and for Amgen workers in Colorado.

One of those new drugs which will hopefully wipe out Amgen market share will be from Medgenics....

200 Staff relates to about 32% of all staff at the Colorado base.

Up 10% in the US last night. Also up from $6 to $8 in the last month so it seems the momentum is starting to build up before the US trials are announced.

The new guys want to start moving this forward and 2014 has to be the year for this company if it is going to make it big.

Have bought some more this month so am fully loaded up here now. Hopefully we can get some positive news soon

The CEO and founder stepped aside. I know he remains as a Non-Exe but if feels a bit like Sir Alex stepping aside at Man Utd and letting David Moyes in. He will not be going into the dressing room anytime soon.
