Comment in The Times about ITRK has some relevant stuff for us:

Intertek

If you would like a quick way to appreciate the value of the services offered by Intertek, look no further than the fuss caused last week when some petrol sold by Tesco and Morrison was found to be contaminated.

It could have been a lot worse: the price was paid in terms of blighted customer satisfaction and inconvenience rather than personal injury or widespread destruction of property. But the price was still high enough to ensure that petrol, and other goods and services, will be tested more rigorously in future.

Intertek provides the sort of services that Tesco and Morrison, or its suppliers, could have used to avoid embarrassment. It did not have the contract, it is fair to point out, but it has many others. It checks there are no nasty sharp bits in the innerds of fluffy toys, that tins of chemicals contain what they are meant to and that air-conditioning systems work.

Increases in global trade of about 6 per cent a year set the base for Intertek's growth, but leglislation and customer demands mean that more things will be tested more thoroughly. Intertek may win some market share from rivals and win testing business from firms that wish to outsource. Helped by the odd acquisition, revenues and profits could rise at double-digit percentage rates. Dividends will rise faster in the short term, with Intertek executives on a pledge to reduce cover from three to two and a half times. Buy.

Comparing the RNSs just now, re Lease of 10 Buckingham Street:

INP:

COT:

one might think that they'd get even closer - already sharing a building and directors, what next?

Any merger would probably be at nil premium, but possible synergies and clout would benefit.
I was about to add to my INP holding [honest!!] but see the share price has already responded.
Wait on the next market correction...

Still holding. Might buy a bit more if I have the money as I won't have any dealing costs to sell just the buying ones and the spread - which can be a bit hairy...

Ah OK I think I was reading a bit too much into your comments!I like the idea of bagging a bit of profit if I have something else to invest in.At INP there do seem to be quite a lot of related transactions so it's nice to see they are doing things above board.I've just bought a few GOI with the profits on INP.It's a bit speculative but could be interesting. Any bright investment ideas greatly appreciated.

Which part of my post, Robsy?

On taking profits: if a share is rising, I generally sell some on the way up to bag a profit, whilst holding some for a further rise.

On the RNS, companies normally rely on non-execs to vet related transactions. Here, they're bringing in outside consultants, too.

Robsy - maybe always sound to take a profit, but hold some for the next move!

Today's RNS is an almost painful attempt to stay above suspicion:

I have sold a few more this morning. The share price has come so far so quickly that I thought I'd cream some profits off the top and re-balance my portfolio.
If past experience is anything to go by then you guys should take this as a buy signal!

And after AXA's reduction (6.5% to 6.3%) yesterday - stock easily absorbed.

I must say I'm a bit surprised, as they merely gave an 'in-line' indication the other week.

Is this one taking off??

I would like to see the price reflecting trading and forecasts.

Could be interesting times??

Does anyone remember TRL. Spin out from Marconi, floated for a year or two and then taken over by US co..

Nearly 50% of the stock is accounted for (see list in header), and with a MCap of only £150m, anyone who wants a slice of the cake is going to drive the price ever higher unless, of course, somebody's after the cake!

SP is linked to company performance by a piece of elastic. The elastic could be a bit stretched!

Thanks for flagging that up, Honiton - for some reason I missed it on the InvestEgate RNS list.

All divisions progressing well, integration proceeding to plan ... confirms we have good management in a highly-rated sector.
Mind, is the share price getting ahead of itself?

Results 23 March.

ITRK is one of the six picks by Tempus in the Times:

Intertek, a company that undertakes a wide range of testing and certification services, looks good, too. Rising demands on health and safety standards and industrial process efficiency suggest that this company will continue to deliver strong results.

And COT is Justin Urquhart-Stewart's pick for 2007 in the Telegraph.

As for posting, I'll desist until there's something to report.
