UPDATE - Green Dragon Gas to use first corporate bond for new drilling, Greka soars

China-focused gas explorer Green Dragon Gas (LON:GDG) has issued its first public corporate bond.

Worth US$88mln, the money will enable it to start drilling a programme of 150 LiFaBriC wells on the Shizhuang South (GSS) field.

The bond will fund up to 50 of these wells. It is senior secured three year paper, is due 20 November, 2017, carries a 10% cash payment and is redeemed at 102 par.

Randeep S Grewal, Green Dragon’s chairman, said the company had previously funded its growth through equity or convertible debt.

As a result net equity currently is in excess of US$600mln, but Grewal expects to increase the debt to equity from 8% currently to 25% over time.

"We expect to conclude this phase of the drilling programme concurrently by placing additional debt by the second quarter of 2015 which should enable us to complete the entire 150 LiFaBriC well programme at GSS along with the continued development of our other prolific seven gas blocks, he added."

Green Dragon shares rose 1% to 500p, while former subsidiary Greka Drilling (LON:GDL), which will carry out much of the drilling, leapt 31% to 12.5p.

Broker Canaccord maintained its buy recommendation on Green Dragon and 925p target price.

The top riser in London was China-focused unconventional gas driller Greka

Drilling (LON:GDL), whose shares surged almost 40%.

The company's performance has been tipped to improve markedly next year as exploration for gas in China ratchets up.

Research house Edison put out yesterday a punchy note on the unconventional gas specialist forecasting bumper pre-tax profits of US$40mln for the firm in 2015.

daftbat, i wouldn't disagree with your sentiment but to be fair these rises have been short-lived for GDL.

Finger-crossed that this time will be different and backed up by a significant drilling order.
