I figured that the other plays for GSA would allow me to sleep better, should QD end up with nothing commercial (which I think is a very very remote possibility....!)

Yes Pana, looks like they will BOTH be spudding very soon. With the recent strong price movement and volume it looks like something is happening anyway.

Spnk, I can totally understand why you have done that, although I still have the opinion that the better value is still here. Here's why...

The risked value (My calculations, it serves me no purpose as an investor to be biased though, so they are pretty accurate) of GSA in total (all assets) is 748.76%, while the risked value of the 3 prospects they are / will be drilling in the very short term is 329.11%, at the current share price. The risked value of VST at it's current share price is 216.13%.

However, if you believe that VST will prove QD to be much bigger (on this drill alone) then the CPR has stated, then VST's risk value will slowly catch GSA's. So if you believe VST and GSA will prove QD to be 7bn OIP from the Cretaceous and 3bn OIP from the Tertiary then VST have a risked value of 533.46% and GSA have a risked value of 526.35%.

Hope this helps people understand the differences between the two investments and as ever, it's your own perception to which is the 'better' investment.

Good luck all.

I understand why you did that, but I'm loaded to the gunnels with both and don't feel inclined to do any switching at the moment. More short term news flow here from Guyana and Egypt, any time from now to end of December.

Good Luck,

JF

Switched a load of these back to vst yesterday at 1 gsa = 0.83 vst. Will continue to switch between the two if one becomes better value (am hoping Mr 500 has cleared off vst and we could see an uplift).

Still holding a few here but about 3 vst to 1 gsa now.

Alex... I do have some doubt about the January TD now, I'm thinking Feb - Mar for TD and testing, but as you say, if its 10bn OIP, who cares how long it takes!

no problem robbo.....forcing the hand of vst indeed. essentially even if it takes until may to complete the well (horrible to think i know) if it proves anywhere near 10bn barrels oip that's all that matters imo.

Credit to Groundstar for releasing this news to shareholders, seemly forcing the hand of VST IMO.

Wakey wakey holders 2011 is nearly upon us. Could it be the year for GSA to spike and release its potential?

I recently bought into their story @34c last month. Steady as she goes.

Groundstar Resources Provides Operational Update: Qara Dagh- 1 Exploration Well, Kurdistan, Iraq
CALGARY, ALBERTA, Dec. 13, 2010 (Marketwire) --

NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION TO U.S. NEWS WIRE SERVICES OR DISSEMINATION IN THE UNITED STATES

Groundstar Resources (TSX VENTURE:GSA) has been informed by Niko Resources, the operator of the Qara Dagh - 1 exploration well in Kurdistan, Iraq that the go-forward plan previously announced on November 12, 2010 to install intermediate 11 3/4 inch expendable liner in the Tanjero formation has been successfully completed. The liner was set at 2,088 meters, expanded and cemented in place. An extremely unstable zone encountered while drilling in the Tanjero has significantly impeded drilling progress. It is believed that the liner will prevent or eliminate rock cavings that caused the drilling delays. The operational forecast is to drill ahead to evaluate the three primary Cretaceous targets; Shiranish, Kometan and Qamchuga.

The Qara Dagh Block is located in the prolific Zagros foldbelt that extends from southern Turkey across northern Iraq and into southwest Iran, which contain giant and supergiant accumulations of oil. The large surface structure on the block known as Qara Dagh is a prominent anticline which rises as high as 600 meters above adjacent valley floors. This block, which is 65 kilometers by 5 kilometers, is located 60 kilometers southeast of the Taq Taq oilfield and 60 kilometers east of the giant Kirkuk oilfield, and is adjacent to a Heritage block with a recent oil discovery. Groundstar has a 6% beneficial interest in the Qara Dagh Block.

Was thinking of switching out of these to increase my vst as they're trading at a much higher level comparatively now. Think I will wait as there may be more short term upside here and Mr 500 continues to drag the vst share price down.....

Cheers alex... It's about time they spud, will be an exciting 2-3 months after they've starting drilling!

Pana... stop being so conservative!! At least $5 for QD alone! ;)

Afternoon all, just a little update which I received earlier today which is that we should be having news of spudding in BOTH Guyana and Egypt before the new year. Shocking to believe this may actually happen but lets hope so. Earlier way the impression I got was we should receive a decent update of progress on both fronts shortly.

And it's a lot more than that right now, so TBH, VST would be a better buy, except for the diversification.

From memory, GSA should be trading at (around) 55% of Vast's share price if you only take into account QD. GSA's other assets would be valued at nil.

so, (as i asked on VST board), whats difference in risk-weighted valuation for GSA and VST on QD. Or put it another way, what is each discounting per barrel stripping out (if possible) GSA other assets?

Yes, welcome aboard 22Zacman.

I've heard Guyana spud has been delayed again due to heavy rain, likely to be start of Decemeber now.

Egyptian spud is still mooted for end of November, however, my personal belief is that it won't spud until Decemeber.

Looking like all the news should start coming out around the end of January / start of Feb, unless we get a DST on the first Cretaceous interval at QD, which IMO could come out in Decemeber, if they have or are about to resume drilling now.
