The joint venture company formed by Norway's Aker ASA (AKER.OS) and BP PLC (BP) said Friday that one person died and another injured following an accident on a drilling rig.
The incident occurred Thursday during maintenance work onboard the Maersk Interceptor drilling rig which is drilling on the Tambar field in the North Sea.
The deceased--a Norwegian citizen working for Maersk Drilling--fell into the sea during maintenance work on the rig and was recovered by a standby vessel and transported by helicopter to Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen, Aker BP said.
The other casualty is also an employee of Maersk Drilling, but his condition is not critical and he is being treated at Stavanger University Hospital.
How the incident occurred has not yet been clarified.
Production on Tambar has been shut down, it added.
Aker BP has a 55% stake in the field while Faroe Petroleum PLC (FPM.LN) holds 45%.
