Without being prosecuted for match fixing like Conte

It is a pity they are not in the PL. They would liven things up if they were.

Match Fixing Scandal.

Incoming Chelsea boss Antonio Conte

Conte, who denies any wrongdoing, is accused by prosecutors in the city of Cremona of "sporting fraud".

The case focuses on 2011, when he was in charge of Siena in Serie B.

The 46-year-old former Juventus boss will become Chelsea head coach after managing Italy at Euro 2016.

Conte has already served a ban imposed by the Italian soccer federation in connection with the 2011 case.

Prosecutor Roberto di Martino has cited a match against Albino Leffe, claiming Conte knew of match-fixing efforts. He requested the sentence and 8,000 euro fine in a closed-doors hearing in Cremona on Tuesday.

Conte's lawyer, Leonardo Cammarata, said the defence is due to make its final statement to the court on 11 April and a verdict is due in mid-May.

A Chelsea spokesman said the club would not comment on an ongoing investigation.

Largely agree with that Tommo - he also wants players to be respectful to both him and the officials, and mindful of their off pitch antics

Can only be a good thing imo although there's plenty of talk that his style (rather like Jose's) tends to wear thin after a while

However, quite happy to get back on the silver trail again in the meantime

Great to get the confirmation about Conte. Just wish that his official start date was before the end of the Euro 16 final but I'm sure that he is having an input into the players he wants as of now. I think it's very important that he has full control in this area and that there is no interference from that clown of a "technical director", Emenalo, either now or in the future.

It has to be a completely new start. That means, I'm afraid, that John Terry has to leave the club. Conte needs to have control of the dressing room from the outset and can't have any potentially influential and disruptive baggage from previous regimes hanging around.

I understand that Conte can be a bit of a disciplinarian. Nothing wrong with that. The players should respect him for that. I think Mourinho lost their respect more because of his oft-repeated childish antics and attitude. I reckon Conte is a maturer personality and won't fall into that trap.

It looks like Costa is like Premier inn - not a top brand.

Chelsea striker Diego Costa will serve an additional one-match ban and has been fined £20,000 after admitting a charge of improper conduct.

Costa, 27, has been punished for his reaction to his sending off against Everton in an FA Cup tie on 12 March.

There is no transition in football, only decline. The reason Liverpool and then Man U managed to stay consistently at the top is because the team was continuously refreshed. Barca have been similar. Liverpool dispensed with Kevin Keegan, Ferguson got shot of Staam, Van Nistelroy, Cole, Butt, and a host of others. If you aren't getting rid of good, adequate or simply aging players and replacing them with better then say farewell to regular trophy winning. And it is a hard road back.

Err, the difference is we're a big club with a huge pile of trophies, we're in transition with a youthful team generally excluding some old dead wood that will gone of the summer, incl. LvG

Chelski's season ended weeks ago, nothing to play for, club in decline, no World Class manager, no Champions League, revenues in decline, the Russki will get bored and sell out, get ready for a spell in the Championship, your stadium capacity suits the Championship

Outlook is bleak.

Ref. Mikel I believe for some reason he has always played within himself for Chelsea .. imo he is a better player than we have ever seen ,that said he has had his chance .. We are far to predictable and have been for about 18 months . who do we keep ? Willian and ?

We made a good profit on De Bruyne. I can't see us buying back Lukaku; his first touch and passing are not top class. He would be a good option in the current team, but that is because we are mid table premier league quality. The players I'd most like to see in the first team are Tammy Abraham and Dom Solanke.

Dream on re Lukaku, he want's Champions League. EFC would not sell to a Prem club. IF he goes and Everton DON'T have to sell him, Germany or Italy would be my guess but who can afford him. Still has three years left on his contract.

Good points, hpcg, but I have to disagree about Mikel. You're right that he has been a better player than Matic this season but I think that when both are at their peak form, Matic offers so much more to the rest of the team.

Mikel has been around for over ten years now. His play has always been biased towards the negative style. In his earlier days he was a complete liability with the dangerous free kicks he was regularly conceding. His tackling is still suspect, in my opinion. He never runs with the ball and, for a big bloke, he has never been a threat for us at corners. This is reflected in his abysmal goals to games ratio over the years. I know he's a "holding" midfielder but defenders like Terry, Cahill, Ivanovic, Gallas and David Luiz have all embarrassed Mikel in the goal scoring department over the years. His inclusion in any Chelsea side smacks of negativity from the outset. I will be very disappointed if he remains at the club beyond this summer.

We ended up buying Matic back for much more than we let him go for and it looks like we're about to do the same with Lukaku. I think we sold De Bruyne to Wolfsburg for less than we bought him for (I may be wrong) but then a year later he's moving to Man City for about £30m more. Something is going wrong somewhere. I suspect it's partly due to the unnecessary influence of Emanolo. Abramovich really needs to get a grip of these clowns in the club's hierarchy and get rid of any superfluous ones. The new manager's wishes for the types of players he wants must be paramount.

Mikel is one of our better players. He has had a much better season than Matic. Having said that, this is an indication of how far the standards of the playing staff have declined.

Another list of things to do:

1. We need to let go of Terry and have a replacement to play instead of Ivanovic. In other words 2 new centre backs. Cahill's positioning is also suspect and he is not a leader, but we can't change them all out at once. We don't know how Zouma will return from injury, and in any case he needs to improve is passing.

2. We are so slow. Not just JT and Brana, but most of the midfield and forward line. Some speed is a requirement, which means much more playing time for Traore and Kennedy and also a consideration when it comes to recruitment.

3. We are physically weak as a collective. As per your comments tommo Oscar has not come on at all, nor has he bulked up. It doesn't matter if his frame is the exception, but if we have a multitude of players like that we are easily out muscled.

4. We spend to long on the ball and are not direct enough when breaking. This is in part a coaching thing but also in part the collection of players we have.

5. Reduce the player trading. We made mistakes with De Breuyne and Schurrle as their replacements were much worse. The latter would greatly enhance the current side even if he has limitations. If we buy a player then he needs to be much better than we already have.

6. We need 3 center forwards even if we play only one up front.

7. We aren't rotating enough. It keeps players fitter and hungrier. When English teams were at their zenith in Europe, Ferguson, Benitez, Wenger and whomever was our manager would hardly ever pick the same team twice in a row.

Wholesale changes required in the summer. The squad and set-up at board level are stale and require some drastic refreshing. If the new man is going to be Conte then let him try to bring in who he wants and don't saddle him with players that the likes of Emanolo think should be brought in. In fact, get rid of him, because he really is surplus to requirements and his presence only serves to confuse things at management level.

Mikel must be got rid of this summer. As should Oscar and Remy. And, unfortunately, if Costa and Hazard's hearts aren't really with the club, then they should also go.

And let's trim the number of players on our books that are out on loan. If they're never going to be considered good enough for the first team then just get rid of them. Trim down this bloated system and concentrate more resources on bringing young talent through the club's academy.

With the resurgence of clubs like Spurs and West Ham, it's not nailed-on that we're just going to walk back in to the Champions League slots next season. There's a lot of work to do. Please let's begin by getting rid of the two superfluous Nigerians.
