LONDON--The U.K.'s communications regulator Tuesday announced plans to cut bills for BT Group PLC (BT.A.LN) customers who only use the telecommunications company's landline services to 2009 levels and restrict future price rises.
The Office of Communications, known as Ofcom, said it proposes to reduce the amount BT can charge its more than 2 million landline customers by at least 5 pounds ($6.2) a month.
The restrictions are likely to result in other telecoms companies that provide landline-only services also cutting prices in line with BT, which serves nearly 80% of this segement of the U.K. market, Ofcom said.
