04/6/2011 20:49 | I agree e-v. The business odel for Betfair was innovative but now the bookies are playing them at their own game. Bet365 which is not an exchange walks all over betfair in terms of revenue, profits, and by the seems of it - their ability to keep their staff! 888 just got an Italian license which is a big achievement and where are the rest of the online companes such as Betfair...way back in the race...clippety clop... | hedgebetter
01/6/2011 22:12 | I disagree on the point of cashbacks are nothing compared to the better odds on betfair. Are you honestly telling me that betfair offer far superior prices on every selection compared to bookmakers? I think not. Bookmakers closing accounts or restricting bets. Betfair is depend on liquidity. Is the liquidity in every betfair market better or worse that it used to be? There are no arbitrage opportunities with traditional bookmakers. Rubbish inplay betting offers arb opportunitieS with bookmakers. Look at the murray match against troicki. murray would be long odds with any bookmaker. What I have tried to point out is that betfair was revolutionary in it time but traditional bookmakers have adapted and betfair is no longer a trend setter! I value you betfair's share price along the same lines as ladbrokes or william hill. So £5 is fair value. | e-venturer
01/6/2011 09:30 | Living in the land of bookie lala. Bookmakers stop the accounts of winning punters. There is no redress and they pass the names of winning punters amongst themselves. For many, there is no alternative to the exchanges. As regards to the puny cashbacks etc - they represent very little in comparison to the much better odds achievable through the exchanges. Finally, there are no arbitrage opprtunities through the bookies. Any serious punter uses arbitrage to reduce risk. You may not like the Betfair set-up and their shares. You may wish to short Betfair shares. Fine by me - but to overlay your views on the future model of gambling is just prejudice served by self-interest. FYI - I do have some Betfair shares - bought at £8.50 and £9. | 25babies
31/5/2011 22:22 | looks like i'm not alone in my views. | e-venturer
31/5/2011 22:11 | Yes I concede they can offer better odds but do they offer cashbacks, double results, refunds on some non runners or voids. There is so much company that betfair is no longer the innovate market leader. Can I ask how betfair's model is the future? Are you aware of what their competitor's offer? Can I also point out that will hill and ladbrokes will not with hold your winnings or indeed your stake. I still think that the debacles relating to betfair will forever damage their reputation. | e-venturer
31/5/2011 11:30 | The sharks on Betfair can still offer better odds than the high street. Betfair is the model of the future. Are punters who bet on William Hill or Ladbrokes also sharkbait? | trentendboy
26/5/2011 19:19 | Betfair moved to Ireland to save tax so the gloves are off as far as government bodies are concerned. Hmmmm - now aren't all those key accounts operating within their exchange acting a bit like co-located bookies? If so then there is a risk of the revenue looking for tax raising 'opportunities' and blowing betfairs business model out the window - the model is basically to bring joe blogs into the exchange as food for the sharks to eat ...Betfair could be considered a marketing company for key account holders who run millions of bets via their API's daily...Betfair takes a commission for bringing the punters in...the model is on its way out...better odds elsewhere... | duplex
21/5/2011 22:25 | The latest news about charges against jockeys and owners is unsurprising. No doubt it will also affect confidence in betfair. | e-venturer
18/5/2011 16:37 | Only upside might be better than expected results. That is simply short term though. I still maintain that what betfair is offering is nothing outstanding. The traditional bookmakers have upped their games i.e new markets like jolly and rags, refunding losing bets on certain races, enhanced odds, match bets, winning distances. Betfair can't compete with them. Betfair has failed to address the issues around their PR. At least with bookmakers you know exactly who you are betting against. I would also expect a tightening up on restrictions in the gambling industry and their expansion overseas isn't cast iron guaranteed. | e-venturer
16/5/2011 17:09 | I'm happy to hold my long term short on this and I dont see any upside. | lennonsalive

16/5/2011 10:10 | Betfair does not have anything interesting to say to the market in terms of product or strategy....£6 is more than possible.... | duplex
06/5/2011 08:57 | Heading down with the market through previous lows. | lennonsalive
20/4/2011 10:14 | Gone through £9, wonder if it will bounce of previous lows or carry on down? | lennonsalive
