RNS Number:3634D ADL PLC 05 September 2007 ADL plc ADL, the owner and operator of residential care homes, announces that that it and four individuals were charged on 4 September 2007 with offences under section 127 (1) Mental Health Act 1983. The charges relate entirely to alleged incidents at the Company's Newsham House home in Tuffley, Gloucestershire which is registered under the Care Standards Act 2000 to care for up to 40 elderly persons with mental disorder/dementia requiring nursing care. ADL and the individuals view the charges very seriously but are unable to comment on the specific charges because the evidence upon which the charges have been brought has not been disclosed. They are all very disappointed that the charges have been brought some two and a half years after the police began their investigation, during which time ADL has operated Newsham House successfully and with the full support and knowledge of the Commission for Social Care and Inspection by which Newsham House has been regularly inspected during this period. The most recent inspection took place on 27 June 2007 and lasted three days. ADL fully supports each of the individuals, whom the directors believe to be innocent of all charges and will vigorously defend the charges brought against itself and them. In the meantime, the Company will continue to operate Newsham House to the highest standards in order to provide a very valuable resource and residential care home services which are required for elderly people with very challenging needs. ADL owns and operates a further nine residential care homes in the UK and currently provides more than 300 operational beds. ADL and its directors wish to thank all persons, including relatives and professional staff, who have provided support and encouragement since the investigation was initiated.
