Three more U.K. energy suppliers serving a combined 233,000 households have gone out of business, the country's regulator Ofgem said Wednesday.
Enstroga, Igloo Energy and Symbio Energy have ceased to trade as a result of the current rally in wholesale gas and power prices.
Igloo supplies gas and electricity to around 179,000 residential customers, Symbio serves 48,000 households and a small number of non-domestic customers, and Enstroga has around 6,000 domestic clients. Together, they represent less than 1% of households in the market, Ofgem said.
The regulator will now appoint a new supplier for the customers of the firms that ceased to trade.
So far this month, at least nine U.K. retailers have gone bust as they couldn't cover the increasing costs of buying gas and power in the market. As a result, around 1.7 million customers have seen their supplier disappear. They were transferred to "suppliers of last resort," which included British Gas, EDF Energy, Shell Energy and Octopus Energy.
