Union workers at Phillips 66 Co.'s 173,000 b/d Wood River refinery in Illinois approved a new contract late Wednesday, averting a potential strike.
The plant is owned by Phillips 66 and Cenovus Energy Inc. and is operated by Phillips.
A majority of the refinery's 370 union laborers voted to accept the proposal. The union rejected the contract in July, then began federally mediated talks with Phillips.
The refinery is one of the largest producers of gasoline and diesel in the Midwest.
There have been threats of strikes in various other U.S. refineries and management can typically step in to operate plants when workers walk off the job.
