Duke Energy's Florida operations filed their projected Hurricane Idalia storm-recovery costs and asked a regulatory body in the state to reduce the 2024 rate charged for previous storms.
Duke Energy Florida said a typical residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hour service would see a decrease in their January 2024 bill by $11.29 when compared to December 2023 when combined with previous bill-reduction requests. Commercial and industrial customers would see a decrease between 6.8% and 7.2% depending on certain factors.
The projected storm-recovery costs weren't disclosed. Previous storms included in the rate request reduction include Hurricanes Eta, Isaias, Elsa, Ian, Nicole and Tropical Storm Fred.
The Florida Public Service Commission must approve the request. The reduction would begin in January if approved.
