Somero is a cyclical stock and plenty of investors stay away from cyclical stocks.

I don't think SOM is currently "significantly" underpriced. I reckon about 400p is probably fair price at the moment.

Speedy Hire expects full-year profit to come in below previous forecasts
Speedy Hire shares fell sharply on Tuesday after the group cut its annual profit forecast, blaming weakness in the construction sector and a mild winter.

The group told investors full-year profits were set to come in below previous expectations, despite progress with its Velocity Strategy and new contract wins.

In the latest episode of the ‘Desert Island 🏝 Investor’ my very dear friend and fellow pod-castaway Paul Kerin and I discuss my holding in Somero Enterprises -

For me there are no figures in the FCAP research for 2024….so that means zero visibility for investors.

Probably part of the price reaction.

For some time I held shares in a company called iEnergizer (IBPO).
At some point I sold it since I didn't like how they refinanced their debt.
Not long after they announced they were delisting. The share price tanked from 400p to about 50p. Some speculators made good money on the volatility that followed but most investors were forced to sell at a loss, for a number of reasons.
Sort of got the idea that a company can go for voluntary delisting at any moment, especially if they don't benefit significantly from being listed.

You can't simply delist, you need someone to acquire you or work with an investor to take the company private

I found the AGM today very disappointing. No clue given to investors about the order book ("we work on a momentum basis and we cannot make long term predictions"). Some time ago last year, I remember them saying that Somero was somehow suffering from a bottle neck effect from their customers due to limited supply of building materials, which indirectly affected Somero and the orders. This time around management seem to be clueless about what's happening in the industry.
On top of that they didn't give a trading update today, because they work on momentum (again) and since historically they give a trading update in June they will stick to June. Are they clueless even about their order book from here to June?
I'll hold my shares but I don't expect fireworks in June.

Alotto,
Yeah, I hear what your saying about the cyclical nature of the sector, but how much of this is actually reflected in Somero's business? There was the same assumption when Covid hit until it turned out that Somero's business was far more resilient than the small investor had assumed. Paul Scott mentioned this on Stockopedia and questioned whether the company should be on a higher rating to reflect the undoubted quality of the business. Looking at Caterpillar in the US, they havn't been subjected to the extreme drawdowns that Somero has. I guess it comes down to liquidity and the relative influence that the small investor has on the Somero share price. C'est la vie. More patience required I think.

Not an investor here and, sadly missed it early 2013 but, some market intel for investors that may help.

Our colleagues in USA exhibiting one of our products at the big annual World of Concrete show in Nevada. They've done this show for last 7 years now.

Somero have a good sized booth there:

Spoke with the two guys we have there earlier today and they reported the show has been absolutely packed & they've had the best ever show. Absolutely zero signs of a recession was their comment and demand so strong they've sold the exhibit machines off the booth so don't even have to backhaul across the USA back to Mn.

Suggest that bodes well for Somero in the year ahead. Good luck to all investors here.
