from this is money

JD WETHERSPOON (FTSE250)
Value for money also lies at the heart of pubs business JD Wetherspoon. From morning to night, its outlets usually see its customers enjoying cheap food and drinks.

Yet despite emerging from the pandemic in a stronger position than many of its rivals, its share price is still some 50 per cent lower than it was pre-lockdown.

Ben Needham, of Ninety One, believes the business, led by chairman Tim Martin, has 'some of the most untapped pricing power' among UK domestic businesses and will benefit as more competitors withdraw from the sector. Greater value sales will result in bigger profits.

'Martin has just put his own powder to work, buying £7million of shares at £7 a share,' says Needham. 'Founder owners buying their own stocks is often no bad signal to investors looking for an investment home.' The shares are currently priced at £7.42. It does not pay a dividend and will not do so until profits return to pre-pandemic levels.

Spread bets and CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. 69% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading spread bets and CFDs with this provider. You should consider whether you understand how spread bets and CFDs work, and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.

Why not convert all pubs into flats and accommodation?
It obviously makes a higher return and is needed badly ?
Just leave wetherspoons and the supermarket?
It's almost there in many places?

You come on to see if anyone can post anything really relevant …
All you find are muppets making posts like that one above.

That £1.5M trade seemed to support the share price this AM. If it's a director we will get an RNS, I suspect though it was an institution as the results were good in my book and the share price drop was overdone. Perhaps because no divi was announced, and with the staff bonus pool equivalent to profit some investors took flight. I reckon the % of the bonus pool will head back to the historic 50% level as margin increases and profits follow. Still a hold and top up on any share price drops for me.

Not just no divi, but just an adequate profit when the bulk of their customers are facing into a somewhat strained economic environment, high interest rate, rising wages and inflation stubbornly high. Hope it rides the impending storm well (Tim deserves to) but investors somewhat skeptical for now. Will be one of the survivors and will do well long term.

Once upon a time an investor stated that another investor was surrounded by real mates on ADVFN.

Was the surrounded investor naked and the others surrounding him to protect his modesty ?

Did they surround him to stop him from making an even bigger fool of himself ?

Maybe we shall never know …. But we can discuss this phenomenon..

Discuss ….

ADVFN requires cleaning up .

Shysters like Doom Monger and Gozza will be held to account .

New investors will turn away from these shysters when they post ,and will not be influenced in a financial manner whatsoever by these oafs .

Hi bounty there was also reference to Tim Martin's share transaction in the Sunday press which also added 'no reason for the purchase was given'. A totally bizarre statement given no explanation is ever given for a Director purchase. The mere fact a purchase is being made at all gives confidence to other investors.

The timing of this purchase was the most significant point coming exactly one month before results are due. Nobody seems to have made reference to that. No director will make a £7M investment, no matter how wealthy he/she is, if results are going to be poor. On the contrary to me this is the biggest signal any investor can wish to see that results are going to be stellar and they should be filling their boots prior to the end of the first week of October.

An investment now will probably mean you can dine out at JDW for a year on the profits - ie for free looking at it another way!

But the world and their dog are contrairian investors nowadays - so technically that makes contrairian investors normal - and normal investors contrairian- does Mrs. Tina agree?
