For those with an interest / awareness in the subtitling volume tracker on the ZOO website, below is a quarterly breakdown of performance this year, which clearly adds traction to the increasing inferences of record pipelines / workloads etc

Q1 12.0m -3.5%
Q2 10.8m +5.8%
Q3 14.6m +30.8%
Q4 (to date) 1.0m +68.0%

At the half year subtitling volumes tracked at 0.7% on the previous year while the company reported an overall revenue increase of 15%, clearly wholly driven by dubbing and digital packaging. With subtitling volumes progressively tracking at +32.7% in H2 and 11.6% progressively for the FY, a continuation of the progress made in dubbing and digital packaging has the obvious potential to drive upgrades to the 20% H2 growth forecast indicated at the time of the interims.

While caution should always be observed with regard to any inference of a linear link between subtitling volume and revenue, or for that matter subtitling growth on EBITDA (particularly given the companies clearly stated ambition to invest in growth), there are clearly a growing number of very tangible reasons to be optimistic about the future.

With that in mind I have accumulated accordingly over the past 6 weeks.

As a long term holder good to see the pick up today.

The strongest ever quarter for orders indicated in September led me to expect an uptick... more solid progress pending?

"Zoo highlighted that third-quarter orders were "significantly ahead" of any other quarter in the group's history."

I am a bit more optimistic that better things are ahead. Dubbing has taken longer to get motoring but signs of rapid growth ahead. This is very profitable to Zoo.

Maybe we are getting close to this company delivering rather than promising

Its one of those companies where you have to wait for the numbers as they are experts at introducing excuses for results

Denis Norden probably writes the CEO results statements but replaces the word night with tomorrow

enough of my cynicism, lets hope for great things 😂

It was a large volume of share traded yesterday for Zoo.
400,000 shares and
625,000 shares, all transacted at 62p per share.

The new lockdown rules and the long term effects to the way the dubbing industry operates could have a very favourable outcome for Zoo.

Then consider that, in the interims results to 30 September 2020 the company said that Cloud dubbing revenue grew by 480% year-on-year.

And look at the growth in the number of dubbing related career opportunities at Zoo on their website.

And take a look at the latest article on their website, dated 4 January 2021, snippets from which include:

COVID-19 has accelerated the adoption of cloud dubbing and remote recording environments faster than any ZOO Digital pitch or presentation ever could. When lockdown hit the entertainment industry, it became abundantly clear that the traditional dubbing industry wasn’t prepared to react.

Lockdown and a lack of business continuity has demonstrated that the dubbing supply chain is vulnerable. Most service providers own and operate studios around the world, and during lockdown, those studios shut down. What we and the industry as a whole saw very quickly was that there was not a lot of resilience in the supply chain.

The shutdown of the traditional dubbing model has been a wake-up call for studios, and content owners, but it’s also acted as a catalyst for change.

All very encouraging for Zoo it seems.

Sold out of these many years ago for a modest profit and out of curiosity (as I live in Yorkshire) have occasionally looked at their progress. I note that today there were several large trade reports late on. Hmmm. curious. Good luck all.

Judging by the career opportunities on the company website, there are 12 current vacancies which is the highest I have seen it be ever. Of the twelve vacancies, nine are related to dubbing.

It seems to me therefore that dubbing services at Zoo are in strong demand.
