04/2/2009 09:25 | Doesn't bode well .... N.Y. Times reporting this morning: DISNEY PLANS TO CUT COSTS AND RELEASE FEWER DVDS Published: February 3, 2009 LOS ANGELES - Citing weakening consumer interest in DVDs, with or without the dismal economy, the Walt Disney Company said on Tuesday it would reduce the number of discs it releases and rethink how it markets and packages them. Sales of DVDs, by far the most significant contributor to profit at most studios, dropped sharply across the industry over the holiday season. Robert A. Iger, Disney's chief executive, told analysts in a quarterly conference call on Tuesday that the DVD business model needed to be redrawn because consumers appeared to be moving to other forms of home entertainment. "When the economy rebounds, the normal we see is not necessarily going to be the normal we were used to," Mr. Iger said. The retrenchment comes as Disney reported a 64 percent drop in studio income for its fiscal first quarter, largely because of decreased DVD sales around the world. Mr. Iger also said the company, which has so far avoided mass layoffs, was putting into effect "quite significant" cost-cutting measures across the board, but he declined to specify how much the effort could save. | aphzombie
27/1/2009 21:40 | At the current 1.4 mill market cap, Disney could buy the whole company probably for little more than 2 - 3 years payments to ZOO. Hmmm. | bodgit
27/1/2009 19:47 | The consumers are the big Hollywood studios who do most work in house. Now there is a cheaper alternative with a low cost option that saves them money so i expect more work not less work for zoo.. | tony727
27/1/2009 18:50 | Tony, with you on the currency situation. I can not see Sterling rallying to any degree in the short term. This benefit has to be tempered with US consumers dwindling disposable income. I also have have concerns about ZOO's cash position. I think the Scope 7 overheads are proving a burden. Looking positive the technolgy ZOO sells saves its customers money. Agree re: forced sellers. Its an interesting one this. | uzbekking44
27/1/2009 18:41 | abarro Not sure about your point profit is profit. Costs in dollars and sterling so dollar buys more sterling hence costs covered they were just cash positive at 2 dollars to the pound so now at 1.45. $500000 dollars at $2.0 = £2500000 now $5000000 = £ 357142 so a huge bonus | tony727
27/1/2009 17:24 | Although revenue is up, wasn't most of the profit (£382K) because of exchange rate gains (£372K) ? | abarro
27/1/2009 16:31 | This company is really doing well and as long a the dollar stays strong profits to increase year by year. the only reason for poor share price is forced sellers and general sentiment to small caps perfect time to top up... | tony727
27/1/2009 15:38 | This company still doing the same as per the interim statement Worth a re- read With the dollar exchange rate at about 1.40 revenues will be up to 30% better than 4 months ago expect a good profit at the year end.. IMHO | tony727
26/1/2009 20:55 | Verulamium, indeed. In this extremely nervous and volatile market, there will be some gems that get hammered. ZOO may be one such company - but it is all a gamble and absolutely only invest what one can afford to lose and DYOR. Good luck all. | bodgit
26/1/2009 16:45 | Ouch. Never mind, it's only money....... there goes the new car again! Good luck all. | bodgit
26/1/2009 16:34 | Great call by all those who bought back in. Sterling company - great work all. | bonio10000

26/1/2009 13:53 | What greed by the mm who took that trade, 7.85p offer online for 250k, hope you Zoo lovers hold your nerve and wait until that mm offers a fair price for you to top up but after seeing that trade i would pay no more than 5.5p, they didnt even drop the offer 1p on that trade, think they will if they want to match it off. | 8trader
26/1/2009 13:31 | 300k at 4p !!!! | 8trader
23/1/2009 10:30 | Recent mark down in share price looks harsh even against significantly declining DVD sales. Have I missed something? Good luck all. | bodgit
20/1/2009 17:04 | Oooo mr Usbek, now positive... lol | jacobjohn7
20/1/2009 09:15 | 1.40 GBP v USD and likely to fall further when the full impact of the latest bail out and pending quantative easing evident. This has to be positive news for ZOO. | uzbekking44
14/1/2009 23:11 | I think it'll just say quarterly for selling to the US market. They're not going to start releasing more info just because their scheduling software's capable of it! It might mean that their forecasts are more accurate though... | verulamium
14/1/2009 22:40 | magnetincognito, thanks for that. I found this extract from article interesting "... the data can feed into quarterly reports to shareholders on the fiscal health of the company." I wonder when we will start getting these quarterly reports? Any clues? Good luck all. | bodgit
