New legal opinion could spell danger for igaming in US

The US Department of Justice has put forth a new legal opinion that says the Wire Act should apply to all forms of gambling and not only sports betting – potentially affecting other forms of igaming in the country that crosses state lines.

First reported by Online Poker Report, the opinion which has come from the DOJ’s Office of Legal Counsel could adversely affect daily fantasy sports, intrastate online casino and poker, online lottery sales and marketing across state lines for all types of gambling.

The DOJ’s new opinion replaces its 2011 iteration released under the Obama administration, which stated that the Wire Act only applied to sports betting.

The Wire Act originally emerged in 1961 and was designed to fight against organised crime by outlawing racing and sports betting across communications systems in the US. Controversy then reined concerning its scope when it was used in the 1990s to prosecute online gambling.

The OLC’s new opinion states: “While the Wire Act is not a model of artful drafting, we conclude that the words of the statute are sufficiently clear and that all but one of its prohibitions sweep beyond sports gambling. We further conclude that that the 2006 enactment of UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act) did not alter the scope of the Wire Act.”

Metis. It is I who apologizes. I had not grasped that the very informative accumulation data in your messages was not stated in the RNS. Sorry.

Well like oneilshaun, I am using this period to accumulate & improve my average buy price. The buy backs have created a solid foundation for SP, and as soon as there is good news this rerate pretty quickly.

A fair observation Rhubarb - where would the share price be without the buy back? It has certainly put me off from having a nibble!

I do find it disappointing that even with these buy backs, the share price has not advanced. It is barely holding its own, which is troubling with the market recovering.

I follow TAP and RTHM. Both of these companies have announced buy backs. TAP has suspended theirs and RTHM has not even started. So yes!

Multiplural what an idiotic comment to make.Every scenario regarding XLM has been talked about to the n'th degree on this board. All you need to do is go back and read it. If you can't be bothered doing that then why are you even invested here?Metis please carry on the daily updates. They provide a great summary of where we are up to with the buybacks

Metis, I fail to understand why you have to repeat the info on buybacks daily , as everyone here can read it in the news section.
It would be better to see some views on the company instead imo.

the problems the business has had are operational not structural and are more than in the price. Why focus on current net assets?

Because it gives you some security, in terms of assets that are readily realisable and close to or are cash. So in this instance it equates to approx 14p per share.

Seeing how net assets have risen over the period gives you some appreciation of how the company has added value for its shareholders (need to take into account dividends and acquisitions too).
