Held these since gold at $1250. Had note from Hargreaves Lansdown saying they will no longer allow any purchases after 28th of the dollar version and only the sterling version. Can continue to hold which is lucky as I don't want to realise a capital gain.

Looking like this will be a good bet during the rollercoaster ride due to COVID19.

It's beginning to look like Paulson and Gross got it right after all. Hope so!

Yes, if you choose the right ETFs, but there aren't very many of them.

One only had to look at Brown at the Leveson enquiry this morning to be reminded of the folly of selling gold to buy euros !!!

I think it's still sensible to have a gold 'hedge' at the moment - the fundamental problem with paper currencies tied to the 'debt standard' has not gone away !

Anyone read "When Money Dies" about hyper inflation in 1920's Germany.

Very interesting book and very very scary.

People with cash savings were just wiped out.

I wonder what the gold price was in German marks after that ?

I don't really expect a sharp rise in this in the near future unless something unusual happens. Everyone seems to be expecting a short term market pull back (Including David Schwartz in today's FT0. Gold is my insurance against politicians. Longer term, I'm looking for %2000.

And as long as money is being printed, so I will continue to accumulate gold.

Exactly ! To which I would add that "as long, also, as more physical gold than is currently being produced annually is being 'consumed' annually in India and China alone."
