RESULTS OF RIGHTS ISSUE
The Company announces that the 5 for 4 rights issue of up to 65,484,621
ordinary shares of 10 pence each ("Rights Shares") at 10 pence per Rights
Share closed at 3.00pm on 17 January 2000. 60,805,272 Rights Shares were
taken up by Qualifying Shareholders, which represent an aggregate take-up of
approximately 92.9 per cent. Fractions to Rights Shares amounted to 500
Rights Shares and these shares have not been allotted.
The balance of the Rights Shares, being 4,678,849 Rights Shares, has today
been placed principally with institutional investors at a price of 27p pence
per Rights Shares (gross of expenses).
It is expected that definitive share certificates in respect of the Rights
Shares will be despatched to shareholders by 24 January 2000.
