not sure ch1ck... petrofac are predicting pretty high growth whereas wg. remain a bit flat & with a reduction capex, the scope for growth isn't there.

however, it'd still say buying below 300p should provide gains and provide a decent price for longer-term holders.

Did a bit of analasis on the oil support stocks over the weekend and I believe Wood Group is a bit of an overlooked gem which is lagging the Petrofac, Rortork and Huntings of this world.

Bought a few thousand this morning, expecting big things in the future.

Just read thru them, notice their debt down $60M or so, but not shouting about it.

Wonder if the Venture takeover will affect them, assume all these N sea operations
are on long term contracts with relevant clauses - its not something you can just be sacked from with a telephone call

Lets see if it can make my target! Plenty of results in the sector in the last week or so of August (inc WG.)

Wendsworth - you trust the UK Govt to own Lloy? here's a scenario - Tories in early next year and they sell their holding at discount to their sponsors (ie the City). Why? because they are against public ownership and bringing in any revenue in year one helps manage the first painful budget deficit. Share price tanks as a result of the discounted sell off. Good luck

silverfern: You could well be right. Good luck. I've taken my profit and invested in my CORE holding which is LLoy. See the latter as a potential 'three bagger' BUT cannot say the same about WG.

One thing's for certain WG can on occasions move QUICKLY in either direction!

wends: thanks, but I see the US economy is the bigger driver. The statement issued in May is key I think: " The contract is not material to the company and will not affect 2009 trading", the spokeswoman said. How can you disgaree with'spokeswoman'?

You are worried about Venzuela... yet you'll buy back in under £2.50?

I'm holding on, in at 2.53 (had a long on spreads from 232 - 255 as well) so they're doing me ok, looking to hold until the end of August - hopefully be £3+ by then.

silverfern : Have just sold my entire holding for a quick 12.5% return. Don't particularly like the news from Venzuela.

Will monitor and look to buy back in sub 250p.

No. Small trader volume prob. The correlation between PFC price and WG. seems broken right now. I'm holding to see whether this bucks back up after summer - I see 320p as mid term postion as oil stablises and investmet picks up.

optimism there lol! Mining index up closer to 16000 would help it get up to 300 and beyond. Managed to get some at 253.4p a couple of days ago, so pretty pleased so far :)

-Market conditions remain broadly similar to those outlined in previous guidance.
-Longer term market fundamentals for services and products remain strong.
-Continues to extend services and broaden international presence.
-To ensure company is well positioned to resume good growth as energy market recovers.

Very nice - I'd expect this to be back at 300 today

Ol services group Wood raised its 2008 dividend – and current consensus forecasts indicate a further uplift is likely in 2009.

The shares are yielding just 1.9%, so there is still plenty of scope for the company to increase its payout, as the dividend is more than 4 times covered by earnings. The shares are now trading on a December 2009 earnings multiple of 11.8 times, which is a discount to peer Petrofac, which is trading on a forward multiple of 12.6 times. Buy Wood says the Telegraph.

interesting price movement today. Amec bid? crude price? Economic recovery? playing catch-up with peers - e.g. PFC?
