15/10/2021 16:51 | Of course when rates and fees to customer are low, so profitability can be low. So the question of scalability to profit is a tricky one | eaglebeagle
15/10/2021 12:50 | I do the same and have been using them for several years (over 7 years in my case)...only had a pb once (which was rectified swiftly). Like you, I like the fact that the rate is "agreed" at time of sending your currency | soho2
15/10/2021 11:56 | Well I'm a "user" (for over 2 years) rather than an investor. Prior to using Wise, I'd used a couple of other currency transfer systems, and before that bank to bank. My main reason for moving from bank/bank was the hassle in setting-up international payments whilst NOT resident in the source country, and the high sending bank fee. Also, the rate transacted would depend on the time the cash arrived at the destination bank (and would frequently be at the lowest Fx over a period of a few days). For me the main benefit of wise (and others) is to "fix" the exchange rate at the time of transfer. The fee charged is totally transparent (as a small % of the Mid rate at the time of set-up, plus a very small "sending" fee). Wise is significantly cheaper than the other platforms I've used, and they have continued to reduce fees during the time I've been using them. I estimate that I'm saving at least 1% of the transfer amounts in rates alone, plus any fixed fees, and since the cost is now principally rate related I make smaller and more frequent transfers, and so (hopefully) can optimise the overall rate at which I exchange. If I include the poor "arrival" rates previously seen, I'm probably saving more like 4-5% overall. Many (perhaps even most) expats I know who live where I do use Wise, irrespective of the source bank country, and although there is little opportunity to increase the amounts transferred, I think there is still a large untapped potential customer base who still use PP or WU (for example) that should be targeted. I will probably be making a modest investment here in the near future... | steve73
15/10/2021 10:10 | WISE pitched to Fund Managers in the PIWORLD Sell it to the City (an excellent pitch). Listen here at 27m45s. Listen to the pitch here at 18m. Video link: Podcast: We’ve also asked for a ‘people’ Vote for the company Vote for the pitch | tomps2
14/10/2021 08:24 | Fool article on possible decline to share price, coming back a bit this morning. | kaos89
13/10/2021 23:38 | Well, I can't help you with answers. I'm not a WISE user because I don't do transactions. I have invested because a friend explained me their concept and find it very clever. I hope I did the wright investment... | marnix1
13/10/2021 23:29 | No, but I believe in the service friendliness of their concept. | marnix1
13/10/2021 15:39 | Marnix1, to answer your question as to why Im on this BB with my Halifax background. Firstly I left them some years ago and worked for Visa and MasterCard who are trying to get into this space and for Vocalink who are world leaders in real time payments and they are trying to build cross border also. So Im merely looking for reasons and rationale as to who will win. Personally I would love WISE to win rather than the big Yank companies. Im merely asking questions I haven't seen answered and hoping to get some powerful responses back,. | eaglebeagle
13/10/2021 14:45 | Do you use wise? | priteshpatel9
13/10/2021 11:40 | Do you mean the company taxes??If so, it tells me two possibilities.1) they have money problems2) they are not professional.I'm an investor because I believe in their business idea. But I start to have some doubts now... | marnix1
13/10/2021 11:35 | So, why be on this blog?? You must be very negative about WISE with your history at Halifax . Or do you think they will do better?? | marnix1
13/10/2021 10:20 | Probably also the fact that WISE is massively over valued and traders are looking around at recent IPO's as shorting candidates. | liam1om
13/10/2021 08:44 | Kristo Kaarmann has not paid his taxes is a possible reason. Not sure what actions will be taken I think he should make a statement | kaos89
13/10/2021 08:33 | No idea, Wise down! more appreciate heading | kaos89
13/10/2021 08:30 | any clues as to why the sudden share price reversal? | melody9999
23/9/2021 08:36 | The trouble is that's quite a small market. The remittance markets moves in corridors and its highly competed. The banks haven't responded because wise has, in the main, not been impacting their particular focus. Certainly if they are successful in getting small business that would make a difference. but can wise provide trade finance, working capital etc which is often part of the package. Can Wise actually be so compelling as to disaggregate this banking service from the rest of the required facilities or does it have a natural ceiling? Im not down on Wise these are just questions that help me think through when or if I should in invest. What will Wise do in response to instant cross border payments which are coming over the next few years? Have they already shot their bolt? Are they trying to go down the sell the customer base route? Apropos of nothing at all I used to work at Halifax and led the project to change the cross border payments approach. Tripling revenue in 3 years. And then the company went bust. Oh dear. | eaglebeagle
23/9/2021 07:27 | There remains a huge market for Wise out there, at least all the time a lot of people live in the past. My Halifax on-line banking still has a question, "how do I move money abroad?". At Heathrow people still queue at the money exchange office like they did 50 years ago to get their holiday currency.Wise need to tap into these people | neftanik
22/9/2021 12:34 | And not long after listing Wise comes up with a new product. Well not new or different just me too in the hope this will tempt their customers into considering Wise as a ……? Well best of luck to them. Odd that the cross border payment market is already failing to meet revenue growth expectations | eaglebeagle
21/9/2021 13:22 | Yep, looks like after a month of pushing above and slipping back to £10, buyers win | rarther
14/9/2021 21:48 | Seems your hungry whale can't eat much more..... | neftanik
19/8/2021 15:40 | This is gonna have a £10 ceiling for ages imho. These big boy insiders keeping the price down don't know how to unwind their positions properly. If they were smart they would layer it into the market eg. Sell £10m at £10.00 another at £10.09 then another at £10.15 etc to massage the market upwards and build up their core holding, but instead as soon as it hits £10 they dump on the market until it"s below £10. Not very smart but that's what it looks like to me. It will take a hungry whale or two a long time to fill the £10 dumpers. | rarther
10/8/2021 21:26 | It's a shame that nice rise didn't last | neftanik
05/8/2021 23:06 | Nice if we can stay blue every day, even if it's now by much | neftanik
02/8/2021 07:41 | Neftanik, for same reason that about 95% of people use a High street estate agent to sell their property when an online agent can do same job for a few hundred quid - I used online agents for last 2 moves . people are brainwashed from a young age into using banks and high street agents and stick with it for life ,. In OZ commissiions are much higher at about 3% and no online agents yet ( Purple Bricks tried but struck that indoctrination problem in OZ too and withdrew from the market !! ) . | arja
01/8/2021 11:42 | not sure why they are so high as much competition and FX rate offered to those transferring funds is not as good in terns of basis points from inter bank than some others but better than others . tracking sideways at present and wonder which way it will jump . The chart takes precedence over fundamentals anyway | arja |
