20/12/2013 13:29 | 'MP hedges his bets on bookies' MP Tom Watson's war on the bookies continued this week as - following a public twitter spat with William Hill - he tabled an early day motion attacking fixed-odds betting terminals and "unsightly gambling clusters" on the High Street. He hasn't always been such an enemy of the bookmakers - particularly back in the days before his chunky-glasses, anti-Murdoch makeover when he was an unremarkable Gordon Brown footsoldier. A local newspaper picture story from November 2005 shows Watson with a manager from Ladbrokes, who gave him a £100 charity bet to put on whatever bet he wanted. He backed West Bromwich Albion to win at 7/2 but the Baggies could only manage a draw. | philanderer | |
