21/7/2024 20:18 | After a few months away I noticed that prices have gone up quite a bit in my local Wetherspoons yesterday. Still way below the competition of course and with a far wider selection of drinks and meals to chose from, so I don't think they will be losing customers but the higher prices should help profits even after allowing for increased labour costs etc. Table service was excellent as usual with no service charges or expectations of tips an added bonus. | bountyhunter
21/7/2024 12:55 | stay in cash. | blueball
21/7/2024 08:09 | Loungers targeting similar number of venues to Wetherspoons. Shows pubs are not dead. with minimum wage being announced sept/oct the pressures might start to drop off share price Not 10% this year. | chester9
19/7/2024 16:27 | CRIKEY Gozzie2 says he's off to the pub yet spends the afternoon on here ? YRCNMIU we've told you before nobody gives a flying f l u c k about you, your habits or your fantasy life this is an investment blog for grown ups it is not a place for attention seekers with no mates bwahahahahahahaha :) | herecomesthesun
19/7/2024 15:42 | EI 720/730 looks like a fair entry point for a 10% gain, but 20/50/100/200ma are all between 750 and 760. A wet summer vs Euros is not an obvious call. A new share buyback may tip the balance. | darrin1471
19/7/2024 15:29 | Historically share buybacks start without any announcement as authorisation is given in every annual meeting. Tim started and grew the company into the success it is today. If I were in his position I would like to do the same. As an investment, I need to take Tim's generosity towards the staff into consideration | darrin1471
19/7/2024 15:11 | Came on board a small initial holding at £7.40, looks good ROCE 80 pretax/370 Shareholder Funds = 21.62%, which means every £1 invested returns 21%. Agree with comments prioritises staff, but had to steady ship after Covid. Should receive a share buyback at year end announcement. | giltedge1
19/7/2024 15:01 | £7.30 my buy level. | essentialinvestor
19/7/2024 14:58 | Darrin, he's nearly 70, won't be around forever. Like the rest of us obvs!. | essentialinvestor
19/7/2024 13:37 | Big Mac meal was 19 Euros (£15) at Dalaman Airport (Turkey) on the way back. So I used my local currency to buy one litre of Vodka, a bag of Haribo and the balance on pick n mix. EI. Tim runs JDW to his own tune. He has enough cash to buy shares at low levels. He will boost margins, reintroduce a progressive dividend policy and then sell the shares he bought at or near the peak. Tim spends a lot of time visiting his pubs, so he is not going to want to face grumpy low paid staff. The product is good for customers and staff. Shareholders need to follow Tim's lead which I think you had already spotted. | darrin1471
19/7/2024 12:18 | The Airport overcharging is not a UK thing it is Worldwide and alot worse in some places so if you can get Fish n Chips and a pint for £20 you've got a result! I've had friends been charged $30 for a Gin n Tonic and I asked at a recent Airport how much a pack of Amoxycillin was in a Chemist and she said $120! I know you can buy them outside for a few Dollars! | isis
19/7/2024 11:53 | I've just had 4 bottles in a Spoons beer garden in the sun ?11.80 ?Lovely ? | gozzie2
19/7/2024 11:52 | Need more than 1k the way I sup at those prices ?It's enough to drive you sober lol?Not a chance I would pay that regularly?GL to them? They won't ever afford to buy a property? | gozzie2
19/7/2024 11:42 | I think people have the mentality that it's all part of the Holiday and if they have £1000 spending money they're gonna blow it come what may! | isis
19/7/2024 11:41 | Good grief ?Whatever will people do having to pay cash and walk to the bar ? LolPhew ?I do enjoy it myself ?J D Wetherspoon also confirmed the global outage and has since disabled the pub chain's app.A spokesperson said: "We can confirm the Wetherspoons app is currently not working. We are working hard to resolve the situation. However, customers can pay for their food and drinks in cash." | gozzie2
19/7/2024 11:41 | I have asked staff in several JDW Pubs if they like their job and they all said they do and the conditions and pay are good. Many in my locals have been there years and I often drink with some of them. Some even let me use their 20% discount on occasions. ;-)) Almost anything you buy at an Airport is a rip-off and the Outlets get charged a fortune to be there. Take it or leave it. I see people buying allsorts of stuff from the shops they could have brought with them but they still do it! Even on the Plane tiny pack of Pringles £3 etc. | isis
19/7/2024 11:30 | Darrin, it's a fair point. I suppose Tim Martin would counter with ..we retain more and 'better' staff who are incentvised in the success of the business. | essentialinvestor
19/7/2024 11:22 | As I have said before, JDW prioritizes JDW staff over shareholders. Last RNS: "Since 2007, £504 million has been paid to employees in free shares and bonuses (approximately 55% of company profits)." Birmingham airport has a £5 fee to drop you off outside the terminal or a free drop-off point which is a 5-minute walk from the terminal. JDW charged me £20+ for a pint, fish and chips at Birmingham Airport when in my local it costs £10. It is better to eat locally, take a taxi from the local JDW, and walk 5 minutes to the terminal. | darrin1471
19/7/2024 11:17 | The Brixton Ales in the Trafalgar Greenwich are £8.90 a pint, more than most West End Pubs! 5 pints £45- nothing special about them at all. | isis
19/7/2024 10:55 | More biting the dust ?2 closed in my area recently?Cheap pubs and competition for Spoons?Well they were ?hTTps://www.thesun. | gozzie2
19/7/2024 10:48 | I would rather JDW open more Pubs/Hotels and maybe keep some on the closure list than pay dividends at this juncture. They are doing a good job of maximising profits from their new strategy as pointed out in the figures. A paltry dividend is not necessary at this stage imo. | isis
19/7/2024 10:44 | isis, are you happy to hold the shares and not be paid a dividends..? - that's arguably costly. | essentialinvestor
18/7/2024 22:32 | People might be better off getting a Cab to their nearest Train Station than paying for extortionate Taxis and Drop off Fees, then spending what they save in the Airport Spoons! - new Drop off Fees:- Full list of airports increasing drop-off fees and how much they charge Leeds Bradford: £6.50 for 10 minutes London Gatwick: £6 for 10 minutes Bristol: £6 for 10 minutes Glasgow: £5.50 for 15 minutes Aberdeen: £5.50 for 15 minutes Edinburgh: £5 for 10 minutes Birmingham: £5 for 15 minutes | isis |
