16/10/2012 19:18 | From the old bb mistertest 16 Oct'12 - 18:22 - 7003 of 7003 AMD mitigation project declared emergency govt waterworks JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) Water and Environmental Affairs Minister Edna Molewa has declared acid mine drainage (AMD) mitigation project an emergency government waterworks, paving the way for the Trans Caledon Tunnel Authority (TCTA) to proceed with its immediate and short-term interventions. The Department of Water Affairs (DWA) said on Tuesday that the short-term emergency works implied that the TCTA was authorised to finalise the awarding of the contract for the construction of the Central basin, a separate contract for the Western and Eastern basins, as well as the immediate intervention in the Western basin. While the immediate solution in the Western basin had to continue, the department stated the TCTA had to investigate the upgrade of additional treatment compartments of the refurbished Rand Uranium AMD neutralisation plant to ensure that a increased sustainable yield was attained. The TCTA must also investigate the viability of commissioning clarifiers, new pipelines and pumps for operation in conjunction with the refurbished Rand Uranium AMD neutralisation plant as an alternative to the proposed construction of the short-term solution in the Western basin. The TCTA has been further authorised to conclude and sign the necessary agreements with the relevant mining houses. The DWA also stated that it would take the necessary steps to ensure that sufficient budgetary provision was available to meet TCTA's contractual obligations. "In the event that alternative solutions are not timeously obtained for the Western and Eastern basins, the department may, under separate cover, approve the award of contracts for the construction of the short-term solution in these basins once sufficient budgetary provision has been secured," it said. An additional R153-million had been secured for the implementation of the TCTA's AMD interventions, which the DWA said would be sufficient for the 2012/13 financial year. | moreforus

16/10/2012 16:27 | moreforus i still think that 60m was not what it seemed,it could have been a simple uncrossing trade between brokers ahead of "expected demand",i can assure you the mm,s are always ahead of the game on news front. Even the most liquid aim share would not accept a trade of that size | mine cap
16/10/2012 16:20 | Mine cap... enough people have stated on here they are buying and some seem to like working buy orders rather than simply splitting trades and accumulating over time like us peasants with TDW ... so I guess its one of those - mms know nothing about news or they would have been bidding up stock before the last rns when in fact someone dumped 60 mill shares (he must still be in therapy as the price is 80% higher now...) | moreforus
16/10/2012 16:17 | moreforus it does suggest some rather large buy orders being filled so watch this space :-) | mine cap

16/10/2012 14:05 | minecap, the coal project has been a long long time in the planning so we can assume they have done masses of work behind the scenes as far as customers and supply goes.Hundreds of millions of tonnes in africa alone! | reutersman |
