Is it possible the stage payment was made in stock, and hence the big block trade this week of about £3mln that dipped the share price?

Electric cars will soon cost the same to run and buy as vehicles with petrol or diesel engines even without government subsidies, the owner of Vauxhall has claimed.

The prediction from Stellantis, which also owns Peugeot, Citroen and Fiat, came as it outlined a €30bn (£26bn) plan for electrify its vehicle range.

The plan includes developing cars able to drive 500 miles on a single charge and building five “gigafactories” in Europe and the US by 2030.

It also wants to speed up charging times to hasten drivers' switch to electric cars, predicting charging rates of 20 miles of range per minute.

Better battery technology is set to make this goal a reality. Stellantis plans to offer two battery chemistries by 2024 - a high energy-density option and a nickel cobalt-free alternative.

It aims to introduce the first “competitive” solid state battery technology two years after that.

Sales of its electric vehicles are forecast to rise from 14pc in Europe and 4pc in the US to more than 70pc and 40pc respectively by 2030.

Obviously not a FTSE stock, but it's following the index move today, the selling has been on low volume too. Top up time.

There was no reason for the dips in March or May either, and they went lower than this, so, tempting as it is, I'm holding off for now.

I just reread the June results, and can see no reason for this dip.

Just couldn't resist a few more, so added @ 344.8p

Agreed, run your winners and real patience required in such a tedious market.

Completely agree. Trying to time the market and taking profits too quickly are two of the biggest faults amongst private investors, in my view. Why most don't really make any decent money. Conversely, I'm seeing this drop as an adding opportunity....

Investors don't have any patience, first sign of any profit they sell. Then they wonder why they never make any big bucks.

Downing Strategic June Micro Cap I.T June factsheet comment :-

"Volex (-0.1%) and Ramsdens (+2.6%) reported full year and interim results, respectively. Volex’s were predictably strong and showed great progress on the strategic priority to achieve 10% operating margins.
Looking forward, we think that the business continues to guide conservatively, particularly around electricvehicles and healthcare, where we calculate run rates which are well ahead of consensus. The latest acquisition, DE-KA, is performing extraordinarily well and the 25% capacity expansion and new large customer contract
will be significantly accretive to earnings. We think that the business ought to continue its upgrade cycle through this year on an organic basis, while expanded debt facilities and organic free cash flow provide ampleopportunity to continue inorganic growth."

EV is an important sector for Volex but there is a danger (judging by the number of posts highlighting EV) of getting carried away and ignoring the rest of the business which by revenue last year was 88% of it. EV is a fast growing business but some of the other sectors like data centre and medical have great potential and an important attraction of Volex for me is the diversity that the company has. This point was confirmed by Jon Boaden in the recent presentation that though EV is important it was also important to maintain a balance in its mix of sectors. This gives me confidence that we will not go back to the bad old days when Volex was very dependant on one or two customers for laptop/mobile phone charging cables. There are too many risks in being too concentrated - customers change and technology moves on - anybody considered the impact of the risk of the introduction of induction charging for cars if Volex was 70% EV cables?

The next trading update is critical for Volex. It will show whether it's a large power cable business making a few extra quid on the side from EV. Or whether this currently small EV product line is turning into a serious fast growth business in an exciting sector. A lot of people here seem to assume we are already there. We aren't. EV is a tiny piece of the pie. Charging cables is highly competitive. The management themselves have been cautious about the long term prospects in this segment even if global EV adoption rockets. If there's going to be an inflection point, we should see it this year.
