Commenting on Aprils figures, Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive, said:

"With the rush to register new cars and avoid VED tax rises before the end of March, as well as fewer selling days due to the later Easter, April was always going to be much slower. It’s important to note that the market remains at record levels as customers still see many benefits in purchasing a new car. We therefore expect demand to stabilise over the year as the turbulence created by these tax changes decreases".

Todays SMMT figures for April 2017 show a 19.8% year on year drop in new car registrations this morning. Total regns were 152,076.
This reduction was expected as the effects of the Vehicle Excise Duty changes from 1st April kicked in, and had brought forward many regns in to March.
The two months March and April combined total for 2017 is 714,413 compared to last years of 708,212.

Whether that has any import or not, I think this one is miserably rated by the market and somewhat overlooked. I'm hopeful of 60-80p once it comes back into focus.

No figures mentioned,or who bears the cost of transport to the auction houses. At the very least it should free up space at the dealerships.

Loads of uncertainty in the economy at the moment, Some new cars are 10% to 15% higher since the £ dropped in value, Diesels no longer seem attractive + coupled with the problem with Volkswagen, just not sure how this will effect Vertu

Records tumble as March UK new car market hits all-time high...
New car registration unit stats issued today by SMMT show 562,337 new cars were registered in March 2017. A new record month, 8.4% up on March 2016.
Registrations have now jumped 6.2% in Q1 2017 to 820,016 units, a new record quarter.

Undoubtedly these figures are boosted by consumers & businesses reacting to new tax changes effective from 1st April, pulling forward purchases into March.

New Car registration numbers out this morning:
The UK new car market remained steady in February, dipping just -0.3%, according to figures released by SMMT. 83,115 vehicles were registered in traditionally one of the quietest months of the year ahead of the number plate change in March. (83,395 in Feb 2016).

Recommended by Tempus in The Times as a buy. Argues its a safe bet within the sector due to its asset base and significant presence in used cars and after sales.

Agreed though I think it'll be 2018 before this share is properly valued. Don't want to be holding much UK focused stuff post-Brexit, especially smaller market caps, only taking the risk with this one and TEF

Very impressed with the update today. Well constructed & informative narrative surrounding all the usual information.
It's just a year since VTU undertook their large placing at 62.5p, so I agree with the view that the share price has plenty of scope to move upwards from current levels.
