Led by graphene specialist Directa Plus, who produce and supply graphene-based products for consumer and industrial market, the trial in Curbridge, Oxfordshire will see 750m of road laid using an asphalt concrete with a proprietary graphene-enhanced super modifier.

The alternative way to measure the worth of something is to assess the financial savings that its adoption will provide. For Graphene the savings are enormous given the substantial extensions to serviceable lifespan that mitigate subsequent replacement costs together with the cost saving generated by enhanced efficiencies.

You can apply this whole life costing analysis to Graphene but I don't see how you could do that with a financial derivative.

This might be something and nothing but I accidentally logged into Morningstar.com just now to check shareholdings and found some interesting info on this page:

This is actually a page for the grey market in the stock in the USA (can't get similar info on Morningstar.uk without a subscription) but it does indicate that some ii's are now building positions in the stock, albeit in a fairly modest way at the moment.

What a difference a day makes. Just proves that sleeping dogs get up, have a jump around and you wouldn't know they've moved. VRS will eventually only go one way, what's the point of watching and commenting on every move in a marathon.

Geography correction: Jinan University appears to be in Guangdong not Shandong, thereby negating an earlier point I made.

Hello Folks,

Very small question.

The trades table on ADVFN does not show some trades e.g today:

Trade 216 35K trade at 54.05 10:02:32
Trade 217 35K trade at 54.00 10:02:32

These show up in the .csv file download (from which I plot my own graph).

Why would that be?

anley - good analysis. problem with VRS is most of the volatility has been to the downside...

The reason, I believe, why VRS is and has been experiencing massive volatility over the last few years, especially during the 2017 run up and the recent semi-death spiral (opposites of each other really) is because NOBODY knows how to value the company. Not Neil Ricketts. Not the scientists at Cambridge or Manchester. Not a well informed and experienced investor. And the Chinese are just as clueless as every else. Note, that clueless doesn't mean dummy.

VRS is therefore no different from Bitcoin in that there's not a man (or women) alive that knows its correct value. Some say it's fairly valued at $10k. Others think it should be at $100k or even more. While bears think it's of little value, perhaps worth $100 at best. The reason for this is because Bitcoin is totally new, something we've never seen before so how do you value that? You cannot. So everyone, even the best informed Bitcoin experts, are using logical guesses which are almost certainly wrong as predicting the future (and correct value) of a revolutionary new product is all but impossible.

It's no different to VRS. What we know is that Graphene has immense potential in the future. How big is that market? How many uses cases are there? The questions are endless and the answers will only be known after time and the market starts to mature. But right now a market for the product is hardly even there.

The other point that Bitcoin shares with VRS is that they're both tiny markets so a collective of reasonable sized orders can push and pull the prices in a major way. Bitcoin up or down 10%-20% in a day - normal behaviour, that's what it does. VRS up or down 10% - 20% in a day - that's what it does while traders and investors try their best to value the product. Throw in human psychology to the mix and the moves can get even larger.

So I fully expect the major volatility in both Bitcoin and VRS to continue. Only when the markets mature (if ever) will both traders and investors start to understand the best ways or correctly valuing both.

So if you're an investor in VRS, expect more volatility, both ways. There is no way to shield yourself against it. So expect it and prepare for it.

Finally, in the Bitcoin world there's a phrase called HODL which is short for holding. Some refer to themselves as holders which means they're in the long term (5-10 years) and are therefore at the mercy of Bitcoin inherent volatility. HOLDING IS HARD, very hard. Not easy from a MENTAL point of view to see a $5,000 investment turn into $100k and 6 months later it’s worth $20k, an 80% drawdown. Then the whole process starts again, the $20k turns into $70k before dumping to $30k.

I think the concept is apt for a share like VRS. HOLDING VRS IS HARD AND IS GOING TO CONTINUE TO BE HARD. But that is the nature of this beast and if we're not willing to accept that holding VRS, or any company trying to establish a revolutionary new product or technology, is hard the stock should be sold.

Its going up again. Flying up actually.Well done to those who bought in the 40sI haven't touched it, but I do like to see people making money, even if I can't.I'll only reinvest here once I see commercial deals in place. They'll cost more, but thats fine, all risk will be removed.

Coni,I remember now, as I was reading the article, thinking that high quality graphene lower than 5 layer/10 layer (out of my depth here) could do so much better than the good Professor's experimental additives. Hence my posting it...and the fact of it being Jinan Uni. This may just be another nano-supplementary clue as to why Jinan may want our nano-platelets? All speculation of course. Twaddle & hyper-spec...until we get the paperwork signed & sealed. And even if we do, there may be other work ongoing in Chinese academic citadels into graphene in concrete that is equivalent to ours...and yet not scalable like V.R.S.'sSorry to ramble.
