Laginaneil, if you open up a spreadbet account tomorrow with say, IG, they will usually quote you a maximum amount you can stake (or play with), versus the amount you have deposited with them.They will charge you commissions, and if the bet goes against you, they'll close it and you'll lose your stake, or even many multiples of it. It's a scary scenario. I simply steer clear of it.As you have correctly alluded to, if they put a bet in front of you that looks attractive... they are very likely to know you ain't going to win it.

If any psychiatrist read this forum maybe you could help me as I think I could be showing first signs of madness similar to frequent posters here who have no shares in VRS but post 16 hours a day every day with no interest or financial stake in VRS.
Likewise I dont collect stamps or have any interest in stamp collecting but I always spend 16 hours a day on stamp collecting forums and travel to stamp collector fairs meeting people talking about stamps.
Always trying to talk down their hobby and trying to discourage and scare folk out off stamp collecting, even though I,ve no interest or finical gain to make.
Am I going mad?

Funny: all the bulls seem sure *this* is the transformative year when VRS will deliver (it wasn't last year after all, don't be silly). But they can't say when. This month, next month, June, September, December, not a scooby. It's DEFINITELY gonna happen though. Would they lie to you?

But the article says you 'don't need to borrow shares' ?

If it's just like a bookies then they take the risk nothing to do with the shares.

So if I open an account with IG tomorrow they won't take my bet share price will go down

if they think I am correct?

Not sure I get this, need to enquire and read more.

Lag, you have to approach a spread bet company or a broker (platform) that will borrow the shares on your behalf.In essence they will lend you money to bet against a share price going up.But... like any good bookie, they won't take your bet (or offer to loan shares) if they think they might lose!So, some companies are easy to short... others, like VRS are not.It's all about them managing risk.

Not poss to short VRS. They have spread bets open, gambling. 97 percent of shares tied down long. This is just scaremongery by a few. It will double and double again on the news very soon. Buy what you can and hold tight.

I am new to short-selling so please bear with me.

I hear people on the board say things like 'no short positions open on VRS'.

I hear people say 'no shares out on loan'.

However if I go to this website for example:



I see the following:

It says here 'don't need to borrow shares' !

So my question is this.

Could / are there people with these position open on VRS?

The fact VRS put that RNS out this morning speaks volumes in my mind, alot raised their concerns about the sp, they listened and spoke up. Proper decent team.

Spike, I correspond with certain folk who have tried to short VRS, and it's been impossible to do so.There are very few short positions open on IG, and I haven't looked on short tracker recently, but the last time I did, it was less than 1% short.Log Lorry has said that he has no short position. If he did, he'd be singing from the rooftops and raking it in.Clubbie obviously isnt short of this.Rainbow is more of a gloater.Unless I've misunderstood your question, I think I've covered it now?

I don't believe its shorting, its getting shares off weak holders to sell when the big RNS arrives and we re-rate to £1.50. I've always believed that the 15% the Chinese take won't be less than the Gnanomat raise around £1.45. If we aren't doing a placing, its probable that a deal is inbound, of course NR can't say that can he.

Fest: I asked you a question, and NO loglorry did not answer it.

Question: Fest: if no one is shorting please explain why loglorry et all are on here all day every day (at the moment). We know they are not invested - so why are they here if it is not directly related to shorting?

Please answer the above question OR withdraw your theory that there is no shorting going on.

One or ther other - no ducking and diving. Thank you.
