1.2 Product Description and Quality

A number of different scientific tools and methods are used to assess graphene product quality, which can vary enormously from one facility to the next. Strictly speaking, graphene is defined as being from 1 to 10 layers in thickness. Once this range is exceeded it becomes graphene nanoplatelets, being from 11 to 150 layers thick. End users may find that a true graphene product is necessary, but others may find that they are happy to utilise less specific graphene nanoplatelet or micro-graphite products to achieve the results they seek, particularly where there is an advantageous cost/benefit compromise.

Analysis by Raman spectroscopy and other techniques has shown that FGR’s graphene is high quality with low defect levels. This is the direct result of our high grade feedstock and the elegant electrochemical exfoliation production method that is almost chemical free, using only dilute sulphuric acid and electricity in the process.

Table 1 provides information on FGR graphene from independent university testing facilities.

Specifications of FGR Graphene

Parameter Measurement
Description Light grey powder
Process Electrochemical exfoliation
Carbon Content > 99%
Ash Content < 1%
Particle Size 40 µm average
Surface Area > 500m2/g

Layers 1-7

Graphene Resistance < 100 Ω
Electrical conductivity Extremely high

Table 1: Specifications of FGR Graphene
The University of Adelaide has reported that FGR graphene demonstrates extremely high electrical conductivity with a resistance of less than 100 Ohm, which is between 17 and 50 times better than pristine graphene (1,700-1,900 Ohm) and reduced graphene oxide (5,000 Ohm).

Furthermore, spraying of FGR graphene resulted in homogeneous distribution on sheets, whereas standard graphene formed clusters and therefore had lower conductivity. The University further confirmed the purity of FGR graphene with the release of the Table 2, below. The Raman shift curve in Diagram 1 provides further confirmation of the quality of FGR graphene with the sharpness of the G-band and a low defect band.

If anyone got any time, might be an idea to see what patents nasa might hold re graphene and boron nitride ? They will be at the nga graphene cap hill summit per twitter. Imo. Best ellis

PHILBYK7..........did you read my post yesterday on the value of PATENTS and IP?

Please do and then tell me how "in 2 years the VRS IP will have gone".

Where and how do you base the fact that 61% of all Graphene based products are Chinese................if this is true and example please as I will test it at the Cambridge Graphene Centre.

Thanks and look forward to your comments.

Spid Having read your post designed to show that FGR have less than 10 layer Graphene, I am disappointed; you have presented no evidence. On the other hand, the VRS evidence, from the CPI tender wins to the Chinese and US testing declarations provides overwhelming evidence that the VRS product is the real deal.

Ellis the China game has moved on. 61% of all graphene based product patents are Chinese. New research institutions etc being established with great regulatory. This is why it is so important to get something out of China connection. In 2 years the IP will have gone

Despite knowing that I could have topped up cheaper today than yesterday (Grr!) I am content to be heavily invested here, regardless of those scurrilous folk who take pleasure from planting seeds of doubt. (Sad crowd - I feel sorry for them if that's the best they can do with their time).

1.2 Product Description and Quality

If you want all of the information It will take me a while to go through the announcements for you.

You should also note that Versarien is yet to provide any evidence of their ability to produce commercial quantities of less than 10 layer Graphene. I wonder what is holding up VRS getting the NGA to come and do their inspection,

I don't think you need to worry about FGR,

They have a supply agreement to sell its PureGRAPH range to the UoM, they even announced last week that the VFD is now going to be used by UoM and GEIC,

Well said roger, i like the appointment of yi to fill big petes shoes. China Game moved on imo. If jinjan is close/ready to go, Maybe to help gather local collabs interest to get it up and running ? Ie help advise in that regard. Who knows, all speculation. But clearly, she a person of relevant experience and calibre, at the very least. Aimo. Dyor. Best ellis

Yes Ellis, still specifies on FGR spec sheet:
“Range of graphene products
with controlled dimensions:
• Available with lateral sizes of 5, 10 and 20 microns.
• Tightly controlled platelet size distribution for easy dispersion.
• Multi-layer graphene nanoplatelets confirmed by Raman spectroscopy5.
• Non-aggregated, easy to disperse powders.”

Hi Tini5,

Yes First Graphene did used to be called First Graphite,

They have 39,500ha of exploration area in Sri Lanka, that contains 2 Graphite Mines that have 3 shafts in development,

it wasn't until late 2015 when they looked at testing their graphite to manufacture Graphene, after the success UoA test that classing FGR's Graphene as comparable to synthetic graphene, changed FGR's focus from Graphite mining into Graphene production.

the 11th Jan 2016 Announcement

FGR’s graphite has been found to be highly suitable for producing premium priced graphene. Tests conducted by the University of Adelaide found the
quality of the prepared graphene from FGR’s graphite was outstanding and
comparable with the quality of graphene prepared by synthetic routes.
They showed that FGR’s graphite has very high crystalline carbon content not
observed in any other previously tested graphite materials.

With an exfoliation process time of only 10 minutes, 50% of graphite is
exfoliated and gave a graphene yield of >90%. The yield calculation of
electrochemically exfoliated graphene from FGR’s graphite will be optimised in
future proposed studies.

10th Feb 2016

"FGR confirms the initial testing conducted by the University of Adelaide found the quality of the prepared graphene from
Sri Lankan graphite was outstanding and comparable with the quality of
graphene prepared by synthetic routes."

The only thing I can say about cancun tango is I wish I were as smart an investor as he is!
To be honest every single thing he wrote in that post I thought it too at the time, but it was impossible for me to sell a single share, I was hooked on the RNS chasing frenzy, superg posts, and NR's Twitter. I am now cured of at least 2 out of 3 ;)

Spid, Fred splange. Aecom alone will transform the share price for VRS. In your response to me Spid you carefully avoided this point, saying with no evidence Aecom were looking elsewhere, even though they have an MOU with VRS and have issued SOWs for some 200 kg of Polygrene. You then raised a whole bunch of other doubt seeding points. You also need to produce the evidence that Serratia has asked for to show that FRG have produced commercial quantities of less than 10 layer Graphene because I cannot find any either.
