21/10/2008 04:00 | VSH website down for a month, apparently all the management mobile numbers changed, Alton closed till next easter, 0.01 SP, no new cash raised, no stand for IAAPA 2008.... Picsolve growing at 25% PA, cashed up, aggressive plans. BUT... tiny VSH volume, share price static, soon???? | zooper
26/8/2008 21:48 | YD has a website: That site states two US patents: 5,576,838 - this covers inserting your video clips into the previously generated promotional video. This is getting on a bit and was granted in 1996 (filed in 1994, so expires in 2014). 5,655,053 - this seems to cover collecting multiple clips (rides in the Alton case) together on one media. Also filed in 1994. Now looking back at the VSH/YD Alton website there is an offering of 'single ride' DVD's - these are not covered by the second patent, and if you ditch all the bull either side of your mugshot video (which the AT users forums HATE), you are left without much if any cover from the first patent. Now ditch the massively costly VSH/YD park infrastructure and the unreliable and probably expensive wristbands and perhaps use facial recognition at the DVD tills.. I just bought a camera that finds faces with facial recognition for £100, this is not difficult. Further. The assignee of both these patents is RenieVision Inc. not YD - Richard Renie (inventor) maybe licensing these patents to YD, but does not appear to be on the board anymore. Listed as CTO: Now not CTO: This maybe a whole pack of cards and if VSH raise more money against it's majority share in YD it's worth a bit more transparency in exactly what is owned by who and the terms. 26/8/2008 21:01 | One more thing. Looking at the detailed timeline of the YD invention and the introduction of Picsolve on-ride photography, the management of Picsolve UK, the offerings at various themeparks and their introductions. I would say that Picsolve are 'reactionary' and expand gradually - this could be the kiss-of-death to the technically risky YD offering (which is really the only value in VSH). I'm sure the theme parks are more than a little interested in YD/VSH staying in the game... | zooper
26/8/2008 20:48 | Picsolve, about 500 persons apparently worldwide. | zooper
26/8/2008 07:59 | zooper, what size company is picsolve ? I agree with you re. rest of business. It should be sold off or hived off into a separate company. | backmarker
25/8/2008 15:05 | IMO: No large theme park is likely to contract with VSH until reliable comparative YoY figures from Alton are in. Any installation takes around 3 months (although you can argue much longer if past performance is anything to go by) and they have to make all the videos as well - the sweetspot for a deal would be between now and the end of the Sept. In the last year picsolve have been aggressively testing on-ride video capture (not covered it seems by the YD patent) and has a well estabilished business and track record with the industry. On the surface of it a takeover by picsolve would be a logical thing, but not in the clients best interest, I would suggest the future (and existing shareholders) would be better served by a Pepsi/CocaCola scenario. Picsolve are unlikely to pay a good price for VSH/YD as the customers seem to view on-ride videos as a better value cf 1% of yourself in an advert for Alton. VSH is in a precarious situation and has been for a longtime; looking at the length of time it took them to get YD running at Alton and the repeatedly missed deadlines; the single biggest failure to realise the importance of having an offering for the whole 2007 season - the upper levels of management where amateurish at best and I'm surprised they are still employed, very irrate shareholders must have felt this. Iny's track record todate is chequered, but he does have some wins under his belt and is likely to make a better job of it than Berger did, although the hunt for a decent CEO is taking a bit too long and really not an attractive job for a class act. The Destination Media episode this year really stinks and IMO looks to have been an attempt to patch cashflow. IMO VSH should concentrate everything on the YD side of the business and kill off or sell all other sections; as they are now contracting out installations, they really are only selling their (IMO) inept management to customers. These guys know how to use google....... The share price will skyrocket if they can get a deal in the next 6-8 weeks, beyond that it's bleak and picsolve will probably pick up a real bargain. | zooper
21/8/2008 09:54 | SCRUTABLE - 4 Apr'06 - 11:07 - 29 of 495 For those who do not have access to the lemming articles the following summarise the situation. Provided that there are no hiccups from the installation at Alton Towers, the current share price points to a forward PE of 10 within a year and of 4 within 2 years. Thereafter dreamland numbers. You can imagine it for yourself. The business model is of a constant rate of wins piling on the forward sales and profits at a constant rate of increase through the accumulation of service contracts. Any straight line increase, repeat increase -ie graph of the first degree - in sales effort, produces an acceleration of sales and profits ie an upward curve of the second degree. Growth is inherently more likely This accelerating sales yield must be a natural expectation from the recently spreading awareness of what needs to be done in large venues ie where large crowds are the norm. Arenas, stadia, campuses, shopping centres, concert and exhibition halls, transport terminals etc are beginning to invest in efficient management systems to integrate screens, signage, ticketing and access control, security cameras, two-way communication with staff etc. The pay off comes not only from reducing management costs but from the greatly improved marketing potential from CRM, noting and recording as much as possible about every visitor, then mining the ensuing data base for market research, improving customer service, and stimulating increased business. This is a business whose time has come. Whether the management can control the potntial for rapid scale up is another matter and lies at the heart of the investment risk. The rewards for success will IMO be unusually high and next year should tell. | nick faldo
