27/4/2018 07:37 | Amazon leaves no space for competitors because it doesn't profit from its success by raising prices - as has been traditional with successful retailers. In many ways it is doing the opposite! So, it's battling for real estate and is an existential threat to many traditional companies. That's the model that also makes revenue the key metric for the likes of BOO. It's a fascinating sea change that some of the commentators find difficult to force into their templates. Well done to those who have backed it - there's no end in sight! apad | apad
26/4/2018 22:00 | Every analyst has been saying to sell AMZN since I bought it at $270, arguing it's overvalued, but imo the growth is just starting, the only usa tech stocks I hold atm .FB, MSFT, BAIDU, all beating estimate, so maybe there's more rally to the tech stock, but wait and let the technical guide me. | modform
26/4/2018 21:58 | No, I just glimpsed the figs Revenue shot up but no inc in profit Don't think it was due to R&D, they'd have better accountants No expert Hydrus but care re the tax they might need to pay one day! Hindsight tax a crippler | big7ime
26/4/2018 21:49 | They spent something like $23bn on R and D last year. Miles ahead of any other company in the world. If say you reduced that to $10bn (more than Apple still) and add their reported 2017 profits of $3bn you can see how profitable AMZN is in reality. They just currently choose to reinvest. That's why I say think for yourself - sorry to be blunt but otherwise it just comes across as if you've read a headline. | hydrus
26/4/2018 21:43 | ? That was my view, I don't read financial tip press. Weird world now, nothing's organic. It's borrowing power, compete at a loss, put all the profitable established businesses out of business then raise prices. They have a theory in US, get bigger and bigger, don't worry about the losses as it's jam tomorrow. Better that than show a tiny profit which would make the multiples look ridiculous and the share price crash. | big7ime
26/4/2018 21:33 | Maybe because it's way overvalued as most US Nasdaq cos are. 10x sales, no profit. I know it's huge but wtf it gonna turn a profit | big7ime
26/4/2018 21:26 | So a £500bn company managed to increase its revenue by 43%. Beyond incredible. Who said 'Elephants don't gallop'? | hydrus
26/4/2018 21:08 | Well I can't see the quarterly results yet but as the share price has spiked post closure to an ATH I'm guessing it's positive.... | hydrus
26/4/2018 20:11 | "If you can't understand what a company does and how it makes money and you can't explain this to a friend then it's probably not a good idea to invest in its shares." People write books based on this sort of stuff. It's a strange world we inhabit. apad😎 | apad

26/4/2018 18:56 | The Stockopedia flags are pretty useless for anyone with a brain cell and any independent thought. Great one page stock reports mind you. | hydrus
26/4/2018 18:51 | Canadian Pension Fund increased their short on BOO Canada Pension Plan Investment Board 1.01% 0.15% 24 Apr 2018 Looks like the algo-dance will carry on. I've lost interest now and am happy to hold until the results of foreign invasions come through. Strange that Stocko classifies G4M as a sucker stock, MJ. Seems extreme - they are only flags that invite closer attention, I guess. My hunger for FARN is reaching epic proportions. www.youtube.com/watc apad😎 | apad
26/4/2018 18:31 | AMZN spiking ahead of quarterly results tonight. Probably just a bit of froth following Netflix's ahead statement a few days back. | hydrus
26/4/2018 18:17 | Now you have another choice cbootle, where to put the proceeds. I would suggest a subscription to Stockopedia (which incidentally classes G4M as a Sucker Stock). It certainly boosted my success rate for a modest outlay. Good luck. | melton john
26/4/2018 17:41 | Good luck, cbootle. | apad
26/4/2018 17:10 | For info, G4M results are 15 May. | rp19
26/4/2018 16:26 | G4M - thanks for all the advice. Bit the bullet, sold the lot, and feel better for it! Made 122% over 2 years. Had to drop my limit a bit to get an MM interested it seems - took all day. Felt selling in small chunks would depress the price quickly and overall result in a lower amount (could only sell about £3k at a time). My thinking is the next results (early May) are likely to be along the lines of "we spent a lot of money on expansion, better profits will come later" - which would depress the share price. Heavy discounting is the norm it seems in the states, so they may have had to cut margins to the bone. Possibility of price wars. I see my sell has resulted in two more big sells, price falling fast. I sold at 700, bid is now 686. So definitely selling as one large lump did better than trying to trickle it out. Though of course, I understand the best time to sell is when prices are going up - but I missed that. If prices get really depressed, e.g. on results, then will consider it BTFD. Will be up early for the news every day - if good, then will jump back in. ARC - still very much the crown jewels in my portfolio. | cbootle
26/4/2018 15:10 | APAD, do you have any kind of price expectation in the event of a successful trial for FARN? | homebrewruss
26/4/2018 13:28 | My obsession with FARN has just devoured my little holding of DPH. Gulp. apad😎 | apad
26/4/2018 12:47 | No follow through on BOO, I now expect it to gradually fall to 120p | toptrump1
26/4/2018 12:32 | Always interesting to hear personal experiences. Legal and General home insurance customer service was off the scale poor for me and turned me off any merit that an investment in them may have. Back to G4M, they do have generally excellent Trust Pilot reviews. | rp19
26/4/2018 12:11 | Cbootle, I recently needed some plastic sleeve thingies for the cymbals on my sons drum kit which I was doing up to sell on eBay. Not having a clue, I went to G4m but found their site hard to navigate if you didn't know exactly what you wanted. I found something which looked about right but no details to check against. I did a Web search and found Wembley Music Centre site and found what I wanted, in stock and half the price. I think you could check my experience against other items to get a wider picture. | melton john
26/4/2018 12:06 | 2015 triggered me off to sell most of my holding, red. Sold the rest in early 2016 I believe. I'm sure that you have dissected the numbers more than me, but I remember thinking that it looked almost like a smokescreen as I roamed around their worldwide holdings looking for some theme to their business. We're developing quite a theme to them takeovers - WEIR should be pushing their niche rather than being off in the market with Mr. New Boy having a spend to make an impression. hxxps://notayesmanse is a read you'll enjoy, red. apad | apad
26/4/2018 11:31 | APAD I have been reading the Rotork accounts prior to tomorrow's meeting. The purchase of Bifold in 2015 was an unmitigated disaster. No wonder France lost his job. They paid £mmms and it is a total write off! At least they clawed back £10m in performance deferred payment. Unbelievable. red | redartbmud |
