FFX not a surprise one might expect it to head towards placing price to correct the recent exuberance which is unwarranted. The GBP strength is affecting a range of companies share prices but nothing to worry about. Seem to have sold out of FDEV at just the right time, if only my timing was always that good. One week until ZOO update. Looking forward to it.

What an awful day!

Gets me how our indices always lag behind mainly US and some other countries
Dow now 3x the ftse100. I remember not so long ago we were two thirds the Dow

Explains why my US unit trust has outperformed most on my investments the past 2yrs, pity I only have a small amount in it.

They have a different culture in the states, most people invest in the st mkt, compared with very few here.

Bought some more BOO with paltry money that had washed up.
Couldn't think what else to do and there is a lot of resilience ahead of results.

LOL! So would I! Think it will have a job getting back over 50p at this rate but miracles have been said to occur from time to time.

See FEVR took a dip earlier today and was quickly bought up so has recovered a bit.

red - What's up with NANO? There is some life there. Rumours, rumours but nothing from the company to explain the amazing two day rise. Got to love these risky companies ;-)

Of course the bulletin boards are full of posts about wicked market makers manipulating the share price.

Soooo simplistic.

FIF Finsbury Foods.

Results Monday and latest trading update was very positive.
Recent Director purchases Very Positive.
Closure of loss making Grain D'Or (Whilst sad for job losses) is another positive.
Great bake off, renewed Thorntons contract...
£1.00 per share. Really? Should (IMO) be a good 30% higher.

Very limited PI trading occurring and slightest volume interest will undoubtedly result in a quic move up.

Who would turn their nose up at 30% ?

I wouldn't and have therefore added.

No problems, happy to help. I agree with what you say. Many aspects of accounts reporting are misleading. The greater the range of information, the bigger the opportunity to mislead. I would slit my throat rather than read a Directors' Remuneration Report!

It is a trait of the profession. Back in the day, they introduced a SSAP in Extraordinary and Exceptional Items to be included in the P&L. In the early days, every time a client wanted to include a major item into the section, there were meetings and great gnashing of teeth and wailing before agreement was reached. After a few years, you could drive a coach and horses through what was included and in what section it was disclosed!
You lose the will to live:-(

Thanks red, really do appreciate you taking the time to explain that, cheers.
To my mind the title "Statement of Comprehensive Income" is a little misleading

That's the trouble with generalisations.

Coal mining family, madmix, we've moved up the hierarchy :-)

Barry Island by train was the furthest we travelled.

FARN has moved up a step.

APAD,

You have middle class friends? I'm surprised you mix with such low life! ;-)

I've had breakfast in JDW twice, and it was far from excellent. However, it may be dependent upon the pub itself. My local (Ember Inns) once served great food until the landlady left. It went in to decline thereafter.

JDW has reputation amongst my middle class friends and family as serving an excellent breakfast on the cheap.

ABC and FEVR marked down on Carney comments :-)

The chatter that the consumer is suffering is getting louder.
I wonder, in that scenario, when Sky will begin to suffer? Can you afford Sky TV if you can no longer put food on the table? Hmm...

JDW is a 'one off' in the pub trade. Unconventional may be an understatement, but maybe they have got it right!
The sector, as a whole, is certainly on the 'don't touch with a barge pole' for the near term. Asset heavy and high debt, as a consequence, will be a growing issue.

No, they made a statutory profit of £7.322m
The currency translation difference of -£7.521m (Comparative £12713m profit) is a reversal of part of the 'profit' taken to Reserves in the 2016 Results, arising from translation differences on balance sheet items denominated in foreign currency (mainly$) at the spot rate on 30th June.
If you can follow the drift.

Simple Example:
Reserve
Exch M'mnt
$ m Rate £ m £ m
Fixed asset

30.06.16 52 1.2 43.33

30.06.17 52 1.4 37.14 -6.19

Asset purchased in $ converted at spot on
relevant date.
Still Cost $52m Held in B/s @ £43.33m and £37.14m
respectively in the years.
Difference adjusted through Reserves.
True effect on P&L A/c = Nil.
