ADVFN haven't yet updated Orchard Funding(ORCH)'s latest annual results for the year to 31 July 2022, released in December so earnings per share aren't 3.91p and were're not trading at 11.5 times earnings but earnings are 7.11p per share and therefore we're trading at just 6.32 times earnings which rose 82.9% year on year and a loan book that increased 46.4%

The Company had net income of £1.518mln,paid a 3p dividend over the last year at a cost of £0.641mln and there are 21.35mln shares. Someone mentioned a share buyback v special dividend, well share buybacks by the Company are infinitely more preferable as they are the most tax efficient way of a Company returning value to shareholders since dividends are taxed. There is also the additional benefit of clearing the overhang of shares which have consistently been depressing the share price.

If the Company purchased 10% of its 21.35mln shares so 2.135mln shares for cancellation at 45p, the cost would be £960,750.00. That's not a problem since they have £4.796mln of cash on their balance sheet and there's financially stable and a lowly geared business.

Once the share buyback has been concluded the Company will have 19.215mln shares and their eps will be 7.9p(ie £1.518mln /19.215mln)v 7.11 per share pre the buyback and the dividend per share will 3.33 per share(£641,000 /19.215mln) v 3p before so Investors have enjoyed a 10% rise in the dividend for doing absolutely nothing. There is a further benefit that the share becomes a more attractive proposition to tempt new investors with the p/e dropping from 6.32 times to a very miserly 5.7 times and the historic dividend yield rising to 7.4%

Look and learn 4p is coming. Cash runway will be severely reduced in coming months.

Shareholders will realise they are not investing in a dream of a new drug being discovered that helps cancer and the untold wealth shareholders would get from it but now they are invested in a start up lab company with no experience or business acumen to be a success. The dream of the 3,5,10 bagger has gone and if you are lucky it may go up 10% every now and then.

The people looking for 5,10 baggers should well and truly move on. Risk / reward here virtually zero.

Added to above 65% more shares in issue than last year makes any gain hard to gain traction.

4p incoming.

The management are now executing the way a biotech should do. raise cash keep cash as the value of 1 single drug going forward is more than a bln pounds.
in the meantime UK investors are underestimating the need for these molecules tackling 3negative cancers and hedge funds spreading fears on this board.
I am a biotech investor and I finally like what I see; I want to see cash.
My target on this company is 25 pounds, that is if not acquired before hand.
Buy!

Meanwhile, I see the ramping squad out in full force on LSE following the 6p short term target that has been suggested in the FT analysis:-

Citing some 2025 29p target in some charting blog..

@Wulber You read my reply on LSE Friday night to your @Uncanny account. To sum up its down to the BOD now to deliver - lets see how they perform during H1. They can turn this around if they focus on the job in hand.
Good Luck

@Uncanny
I have been in contact with Suzy in the past, she knows who i am.

BUT, your missing the whole point of a stock BB here, the idea is that we explore the pros and cons of the investment and ways to take it forward, the risks etc that's the whole point.

At the GM the SH got their way and Res 4 was pulled. What we didn't hear from VAL BOD was why they actually wanted that headroom, there has to be a reason and my best guess, could be wrong, was that they wanted to explore an acquisition policy and be in a position to make a move fast on the right deal knowing they already had SH support for the deal that was the implication as far as i could see.

We now need to know what is next BUT my call remains that they will want a further placing in June because i believe that Stella will insist on at least 12 mths cash runway from June and with the increased cash burn they will need to do that, especially if THX don't transfer any funds to them by the end of H1.

Anyhow, bottom line: im not here to upset the ramping club just to bring balance to the debate. We have discussed and explored this to death now. Its down to Suzy and the BOD to show us what they can do, so i think we agree to disagree and all explore review again end of June, end of H1.

By then we will all have the clarity required, they will either deliver or they wont or at least detail forward plans and have some kind of conclusion on the 201 situation good or bad.

Wishing you all well with your respective portfolios, Take care all.
