The Cessna Citaion X, Cessna's top of the range biz-jet. I was lucky enough to have been at Wichita airfield, Kansas to have seen it's first flight in '96.

Irresistible!!

I flew many hours with Al Smith who was Trubshaw's co-pilot on the test flying programme for Concorde. He told me many, many interesting stories about that programme, both technical and about flying Concorde.

He went on to head the BAC 1-11 test flying programme. I flew 2000 hours on the 1-11, and Al trained me to fly it. He's a Geordie and we sunk many many pints of Guinness at 'post-flight' briefings! He was known as 'Mr 1-11'

Happy days!!

i remember when i travelled from Bahrain to Heathrow back in '79 on the concorde.

Leaving after the normal scheduled flight and overtaking it mid way.

Still have the photo's Mach2.

When we arrived the reverse thrust sent shoes, briefcases and cutlery shooting down the gangway.

Travelling on the Concorde then for me is not so different from travelling on the TGV
today although i must admit the TGV has improved.

Those were the days. Yes! the end of an era.

LONDON (AFX) - British Airways PLC will today announce it is grounding
loss-making Concorde, its flagship aircraft, the Financial Times and the Wall
Street Journal reported without citing sources.
The decision to axe Concorde for cost rather than safety reasons is likely
to force Air France, the only other operator of the aviation icon, to follow
suit, the newspapers said.
BA has a total of seven Concordes, and Air France has five.
The WSJ, quoting people familiar with BA's plan, said the carrier's five
operational Concordes will be grounded permanently in roughly six months.
Both companies declined to comment, WSJ said.

Waldron / maywillow;

They are a pleasure to look at, and a dream to own. It's been my pleasure to fly some of them and get paid for it as well - it seemed a shame to take the money (I still took it though...LOL !).

More often than not, owners require anonymity, as they don't want shareholders to know about these resources which suck vast amounts of money.

However as a business tool, they are invaluable for the extra productivity from the executives that use them. That's not to say that CEOs and Chairmen don't take their wives and families (or other partners from time to time!) with them when there's business to do in Rome or elsewhere around the playplaces of the world!!

Great thread, as these machines form as much a part of a business as do company cars and other transport.

Technology: Over the past two decades, Bombardier Transportation has participated in most of the world's ground-breaking passenger rail developments. In Germany, Bombardier engineers have been instrumental in the development of each generation of Germany's high-speed InterCity Express trains, the ICE trains. In France, Bombardier has been part of four new generations of the high-speed TGV. In Italy, Bombardier is part of the consortium responsible for the Italian ETR 500 high-speed trains. Just last year Bombardier was awarded the mandate to develop and supply the locomotive for such a train by the Spanish national railways, RENFE.

Notwithstanding this European experience, Bombardier Transportation recognizes the very specific and unique requirements for high-speed rail in North America. That is why in 1998 Bombardier partnered with the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) to design and produce a high-speed rail product specifically for the North American marketplace. The JetTrain technology is the first and only non-electric high speed locomotive designed to meet North American requirements and all its stringent passenger rail standards. The equipment has completed all its testing and certification requirements at the FRA test facility in Pueblo, Colorado.

The JetTrain high-speed rail solution is made possible by Bombardier's global expertise in aerospace and high-speed rail technology. Aerodynamic power car design, carbody structure providing crew protection and crash energy absorbing zones, and service-proven systems form the basis of the JetTrain platform. The jet engine, originating from the PW150 aero-engine, was transformed into the heart of this new locomotive.

But JetTrain is much more than a locomotive. It is an integrated trainset with state-of-the-art passenger cars proven in revenue service between Washington, New York, and Boston-the nation's busiest corridor. JetTrain equipment delivers speed, passenger comfort, and safety. Each seat includes a personal power supply for computer or audio/video equipment, adjustable headrest and fold-down table. All cars feature climate-controlled comfort, wide-panel tinted windows, multi-level lighting and are equipped with spacious, enclosed overhead luggage bins. Wheelchair-accessible restrooms offer backlit mirrors, vanities, and baby-changing tables. Wide corridor, open passageways between cars, and a smooth ride make it easy for passengers to move through the train in comfort and safety.

At speeds of up to 150 miles per hour, JetTrain high-speed rail service puts most major urban centers within hours of each other and still keeps the view at eye level.
