Hultiger yea can often be so. Big names, big personalities, big egos suddenly being told all change. Often not easily accepted. But now diff here tho I feel. The cat is well and truely out the bag no fat back handers to keep the status quo. MA63 makes sure of that - and the mass groundswell of people and emotion behind it to enforce it

Times they are a changing.

Argyle, in these sort of situations, as was the case in the Sudan, the biggest stumbling block was that ugly word...CORRUPTION..Who knows what has been going on and now the people want their share.

Well done Argyle, however the investment community will require some reassurance from the company. In the meantime good news from North Africa and Wick would help. Funny how oil has the reputation of bring the worst out in people, nations ect. I lived for many years in the Sudan and the problems that the discovery of oil caused, before and after the creation of South Sudan. Still looking good with UPL.

Divmad - I prob think it fair to say in more recent times it’s increasingly dawned on Sarawak that they’ve been ripped. and Now feel able to stand up for what is legally theirs

Maybe they were originally bullied into it, maybe some bully boy tactics still prevalent today hence lingering Petronas presence on the matter.

"The 1974 Petroleum Development Act that gave exclusive rights to Petronas is rendered defunct and invalid by MA63"

So why has Sarawak or Sabah never deemed it fit to challenge this PDA 1974 Act in the international court of law?

Sarawak could infact turn the screw on Petronas big time if it so wished.

A very sound case can be made that Petronas cease all its oil and gas operations onshore and offshore immediately; claim for damages to be assessed from the date Petronas entered Sarawak.

PDA 1974 was, and is, in effect, illegal.

brill posts last couple days, especially today.

We need to bear in mind that this BOD is incentive mainly through share price appreciation. they take only £100k between them as salaries, but the higher the share price goes on any deals they then rake it in, in the millions.

These are the simple facts and why Petronas has absolutely zero chance.

31/8/1957. ‘Federation of Malaysia’ formed. (Excluding Sabah & Sarawak)

1963. Malaysian agreement MA63 incorporates Sabah and Sarawak to form Malaysia

MA63 is an ‘international law’

The 1974 Petroleum Development Act that gave exclusive rights to Petronas is rendered defunct and invalid by MA63

MA63 can only be changed if Sabah and Sarawak and the federal government and the United Kingdom choose to do so. And we know that is not going to happen.

Petronas are powerless

...we just have to trust SS and the BoD to deliver on the huge effort and energy that they have put into Sarawak over the last couple of years...its almost pointless speculating here whilst the wheels within wheels turn on a different continent

....the company was almost set up specifically for Sarawak...they must have a master plan and in tandem with the government and Brooke are busy implementing it

...the longer the wait...the more patient we are...the higher the reward....there are richer...cleverer people than us sat patiently invested !

Still No fresh challenge from Petronas. No challenge = nothing to defend. My strategy for what it is worth is for Sarawak and Petros to push ahead and see what Petronas do. Which I suspect will STILL be nothing. At worst if Petronas do challenge at least they have been forced to show their hand.

Worth noting Petronas were quick to challenge back in June, (when it got thrown out of court) but not quick to challenge now. No leg to stand on comes to mind. Whichvis what all the rhetoric coming out of Sarawak indicates

1.
It HAS to be sorted out... for everyone's sake not just UPL/Brooke...that is a good thing...EVERYONE needs clarity and to be able to move forward.

2.
This current situation was always going to happen...and SS's statement that it is happening much quicker than anticipated mirrors Sarawak's desire/confidence to bring things to a head sooner rather than later.

Am V V relaxed about it...with one eye on Wick :-)
