20/1/2024 17:50 | I am reconsidering my holding in Unilever, but waiting till next results in Feb. If there are no early signs of revenue growth and higher margins I'll move onto something else. Disappointed to say the least. Kraft Heinz dodged a bullet evidently. 40 pounds per share were offered. After 6 years we are below that figure. 6 years! Not even in the best case I can see the share price reach £50 with a 1 year view. It is reasonable for an investor to expect 25% return in one year considering how much stagnation we had to endure for much too long. I may sound frustrated... I indeed am | alotto

18/1/2024 08:50 | Another ice cream headache: Ben and Jerry’s has called for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, in a move that risks reigniting tensions with parent company Unilever over the ice cream maker’s stance on Israeli policies. The decision follows a long-running dispute between the parent and subsidiary over the ice cream brand’s attempt in 2021 to stop selling its products in occupied Palestinian territories. To prevent the move, Unilever sold the Israeli arm of the brand to a local licensee. Ben and Jerry’s responded by filing a lawsuit against Unilever, in a rare case of a company being sued by its own subsidiary. Unilever said in December 2022 that the lawsuit had been resolved, and the Israeli business is now owned by local licensee Avi Zinger. The ice cream maker's board chair Anuradha Mittal told the FT: 'Peace is a core value of Ben & Jerry’s.'̼ | alotto

03/1/2024 11:09 | #Tuftymatt, interest rates and (and Oil prices) control FX and everything else, disposable cash is under pressure and so are corporate profits, discounters have been mopping up, but as the rate outlook softening turns into cuts I see a lot of folk switching back to premium from budget.. My last visit to Lidl for croissants reminded me of that, I saw a 300lb woman in her dressing gown and slippers in the snacks aisle, then at the checkout I stood next to a bloke, with a beard in a dress and Dr Martins, just an observation but generally not so much of that in Waitrose.. :o) Corporate debt gets cheaper, costs come down, profits and dividends rise with interest rate cuts over time.. Nice rebound off the double bottom here at GBP37.50.. (so far) | laurence llewelyn binliner
03/1/2024 10:30 | Yes I have been buying these at sub 3800 for a run to 4000 eventually. My thoughts are expensive brands have been put under pressure but if interest rates get cut soon and we get a bit of tax savings too then maybe that helps the more expensive brands come back into favour somewhat. Good luck all 👍🏻 | tuftymatt
03/1/2024 09:19 | Nice reversal here since the pre Xmas low, Hein has set out his strategy and the company has started to divest/invest to build the portfolio out to grow from.. Next stop GBP40, next XD 04.02.2024.. | laurence llewelyn binliner
02/1/2024 08:54 | When you deduct indian subsidiary $40B odd rest of business valued at PE 8 or less, odd considering strength of brands some of the best around. Lifebuoy, Dove, Axe, Hellmans | giltedge1
01/1/2024 10:45 | Alotto, calls by Ukrainian campaigners according to the article. Which goes on to remind us that Unilever said one reason for staying was to protect its workers but then admitted they were being conscripted into the invading Russian army. I am less certain than you of a stalemate, deployment of sufficient AirPower either side may yet tip the balance. I suspect Russia has a weaker hand than it wishes to reveal. | sparkling banana
31/12/2023 14:24 | Facing calls by who? Unilever rightfully stayed in Russia. All the companies that left Russia just gave away their market share in Russia to other enterprises, which paid taxes to the Russian government anyway. It's not down to individual companies to determine the allaged wrong doing of governments. As Donald Trump once said in one of his interviews, referring to the US gov, "Do you think our government is so innocent?" The war in a Ukraine will rage on, not until one or the other side is defeated, but until the military industry is satisfied with their earnings. Then a peace agreement will be signed. | alotto

30/12/2023 09:42 | 2% is a lot to lose | alotto
30/12/2023 09:08 | Should that happen, the worst case scenario would be a full loss, Unilever's annual accounts show that the Russian business remains a profit-maker for the group – last year it contributed to 1.4% of the company's turnover and 2% of the groups net profit. As of 31 December 2022, Unilever held approximately EUR900M of assets there.. Considering the size/scale of Russian assets contributions, IF it happens it could easily be offset by growth in our other footprint of operations.. | laurence llewelyn binliner
30/12/2023 08:34 | Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said any such move by the West would amount to "theft", violate international law and undermine reserve currencies, the global financial system and the world economy. 28/12/2023 08:56 | hxxps://www.unilever I don't see the acquisition fitting in the strategy to focus on the top brands to drive growth. The product is very expensive and addresses a public where Unilever does not operate. The cost of the acquisition was not disclosed. | alotto
