I think this latest rise is SFM closing their short in a relatively thin market.

‘…the Group is seeing further positive developments in our order book and continues to trade in line with expectations…the Board remains confident that 2019 will be a year of good underlying progress.’

So nothing to get excited about but nothing to really worry about either. Steady as she goes.

@apollocreed1 not sustainable if true. The latest share price hike is a mixture perhaps of what you said and a resulting bear squeeze. Expect given the passage of time and another rotten trading update this to re-correct southwards.

I spoke to a manager who works at the company, and he believes they are increasing revenue by offering contracts at below cost price, and also giving discounts for pre-payments before completion. That's why revenue is up but profit is down. His complaint is that the senior management are finance people who are interested in hitting short-term targets that increase bonuses at the expense of quality products. So he expects they will lose customers in the long-term.

The other thing he says are that the share bonuses and options exercised are all processed on the first Wednesday of every month, so there is purposely strong buying activity on the market on the day of the results (to be honest I don't really understand what he meant by this but I'm just passing it on).

2 funds (not shorters) have sold a significant amount of shares in the last 2 days. Added to which the large short ....looks ominous

Government Petition to Ban shorting of London AIM stocks.

The AIM stock market is where smaller companies list their shares rather than using the prohibitively expensive main London Stock Market. This is an important market for the growth of smaller UK companies.

In challenging times, shorters seek to borrow the company's shares from a holder for a consideration and to buy them at a later date. They immediately sell these shares which, due to the relative illiquid market, sends the price much lower and hence the shorters can buy them at that lower price - pocketing the difference. The only beneficiaries are the shorters and the market makers with the losers being the reputable company and it's bona fide investors.

"Ultra also said that its cash performance will be more heavily weighted to the second half of the year..." In the last year I bought 2 other stocks where the management stated that performance will be weighted towards the last half of the year. Both times the full year results disappointed and the stocks each dropped about 50%. So I am very suspicious when I see this worn-out statement that performance will be better in the last half of the year.

Feels like they might have been approached and are using the stock buyback authorisation to keep the share price up during negotiations.

The kind of employees that comment on Glassdoor should not even be working there if that is how badly they feel, they are a liability. This investigation looks like a self-report, which is somewhat bizarre, may have come from the Algerian side. What is the level of business there, presumably the UK Govt. has to rubber stamp any dealings with a fairly secular country like Algeria, but the SFO has a pretty poor reputation for actually achieving a lot, is the PFC enquiry still rumbling on, been nearly a year now!
