CNOOC : Uganda Environmental Agency Approves CNOOC Oil Project

China's CNOOC Ltd. is progressing development works at its $2 billion Kingfisher crude field on the Ugandan territory of the Lake Albertine rift basin after securing approval from the state environmental regulator.

The approval clears Cnooc to construct central processing and feeder pipeline facilities, among other works. CNOOC plans to pump as much as 40,000 barrels a day of crude from the field.

"It is a step closer to final investment decision and realization of first oil," said Zhao Shunqiang, head of CNOOC's Ugandan unit. CNOOC along with France's Total and the U.K.'s Tullow are developing Uganda's oil fields, estimated to contain some 6.5 billion barrels of crude.
