Jet2 cancels all holidays and flights to mainland Spain.

Flights and holidays will be suspended from tomorrow (28 July) until 16 August.

Just 24 hours earlier Jet2 had confirmed it would not be cancelling holidays and flights to Spain and advised customers to arrive for their flights as normal.

This sparked fury among many customers.

Sunday afternoon TUI confirmed flights to the Balearic and Canary Islands will go ahead as planned from Monday, July 27.

A statement said: "Due to the travel advice change against all but essential travel to mainland Spain, TUI UK have taken the decision to cancel all holidays to mainland Spain up to and including Sunday 9th August 2020.

"Customers with holidays from 10th August will be updated on Friday 31st July."

Spain may be experiencing a second wave of coronavirus, a government expert has suggested.

Maria Jose Sierra, a government virus expert, warned: “In two weeks, we have tripled our rate of contagion.”

She said: “We could be seeing a second wave, but we have to see what happens in the coming weeks.”

Ms Sierra said the virus has spread to the general community in the large cities of Barcelona and Zaragoza.

Barcelona residents were urged to stay home in a voluntary lockdown after an increase in the number of new cases in the city.

Madrid authorities have also urged citizens to wear a mask even at home when with people outside of their own household.

yesterday the WHO said was the worst 24hr increase ever in Covid-19 cases with 106,000 new cases.

People going on planes on holiday now would IMO have to have a death wish or just be plain stupid
