I've got out this afternoon. Not the best trade that I have ever done in my long trading career but it is looking like a dog. Lost 11%, has taken the shine off of my KIE shares today but sometimes you just need to put your hands up and say you got it wrong! I got it wrong.

This may sound crazy, but remember the profit warning from Thomas Cook years ago, that shaved 70% off in one day, well it could happen here if things get out of control ...

ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN

I think we have truly entered a bear market, there will be rallies, followed by more heavy selling

Gold and Bitcoin are the only places to hide if this is the case

This is much worse than a recession, in a recession most still go on holiday, I expect that more than 50% will not be going anywhere this summer and even beyond

Poor Italy is totally stuffed

Profit warning on the way and swiftly down to £4 imo, unless a miracle happens with containing this virus

This is going to take months to contain etc ...

I would avoid all airline and holiday stocks for now, a buying opportunity will come, as long as the damage does not destroy entire businesses for good

Why? Because airlines will be cancelling flights and hotels shutting down to stop the spread ...

FlyBe collapsed overnight

Coronavirus is spreading throughout the UK already. Why would people avoid holidays to Mexico, the Caribbean and Mauritius where there is probably less of it than here? Granted holidays will be affected if everyone is too sick to travel but with some reassurance regarding travel and cover in case of necessary cancellations I think bookings will be on the up again. After all isnt a holiday in the sun an essential part of British culture these days!?

This will go under 500p when they announce a profit warning.

Long term maybe, but too early to get into this one imo. The problem is this virus will come back in the autumn more strongly, then that's the winter season stuffed etc etc, until they find a vaccine, all they can do is contain it

Thank you. Get a lot for your £ out there, good value. Just like the TUI share price Get yourself long TUI puts, I hope you have plenty of provisions. Just watch out for the v-shaped recovery in this sector. TUI to lead the way and I've not even mentioned Boeing.

I disagree! I am off to Turkey tomorrow with TUI with a group of 16 friends. Lots of friends and family in the UK with holidays booked and no intention of cancelling.
If you continue self-isolating they will be trading 850 when you come out!

DO NOT TOUCH THIS

It will go down to £3 by the summer, this virus thing will shut everything down before you know it, over reaction maybe but it could play out exactly like that, no one is going to go to any resorts this year

Did you buy back in warranty? Think will stay above 600 now.. If everyone is done panicking that is

Thanks all, looks like it's true then. I think it's put me off TUI as a dividend stock. As a recovery play, then maybe. Shell has this problem as well with a Dutch government witholding tax but they solved it by issuing RDSA shares which are taxed before payment, and RDSB shares which are not taxed outside of Holland.

I can’t confirm that CASS but it may explain why my dividend was significantly less than I was anticipating. May be worth contacting the company on it unless a more informed poster can advise?

Can anyone confirm there is a 25% German witholding tax on the dividends for this stock and it's too much trouble to claim back? Just something I read!

I think 30 per cent in the past two weeks is a little bit too much, that Italian doctor staying in tonofgrieve that tested positive for coronavirus has handed the market a massive buying opportunity (IMO).
I believe that this sell-off will turn out to be a correction, and we will avoid recession. Historically corrections average four months to recover, I will factor in that TUI is in a susceptible sector right now, hence the six-month time frame of this trade.

It’s a gamble. Obviously I sold at a loss but though I still like the company it seems clear that many people will shelve booking holidays and this is the busiest time for the likes of TUI. Sadly you can’t get them back later so it must affect this years trading figures and surely mean no dividend so for me rather than gamble I’ll wait to see how things develop. Of course it’s tempting to buy back at these levels but I thought that in 2008 and suffered for it so I’m not tempted any time yet or until I see some positive words on the virus.there will be plenty of time then to make money rather than watching me lose it.

My worry here is the tracker funds selling out now and thrashing the price.

I grappled with this stock last year for about 6 months, when it was dropping
undeservedly in my eyes. i am watching this time for a good entry point..

problem is at some point the company will RNS that holiday bookings/ passenger numbers are down, and maybe even profit is being hit.

we all know that will be a great excuse for the stock to tank even further....
