Unfortunately, any Ponzi like scheme will only benefit the few leaders joined at the early stage and the majority will end in tears, causing as much damages as the shorters, if not more, to those majority who will lose out.

I have already received the dividend from IG; very impressive. The spreadbetters don't wait for the payment day!

Agree. It could burn some punters badly. It is not unlike a Ponzi scheme. The coordinated PI buys creates price but not the value of a business and it won't be sustainable to have price increases of 2, 4 or even 10 times in a few days.

As Nobby said, it's the concept of shorting a company which needs to be stopped.
If you don't like the company (overpriced, bad business, cash issues, etc) don't buy the shares, and existing investors may sell their shares, that gives a true reflection of market capital. It doesn't take hedge funds to short it to show their thoughts on the company. Hedge funds should just invest in rivals or other sectors.

I can't see how anyone can stop PIs discussing investments and saying what they are going to buy.
Brokers, analysts and pundits spend all day giving advice on what shares they recommend to buy/sell to their clients or to the general public.

The problem is the punters will most likely lose out eventually if the shorters are correct about the fundamentals of the company which eventually fail.

It is not right if PIs can create together a false market then why cannot all the institutions work together to short the company.

I don't see working together either by PIs or IIs is correct to make a false market. The problem is that it is harder and there is no law to punish PIs working together to create a false market.

Yes completely the wrong target. The punters win and the establishment doesn't like it. Meanwhile dodgy practices by hedge funds and other are completely overlooked....

The SEC are looking into it as they think it might look like dodgy practices by the PIs, the irony not lost on me considering the motives and techniques used by the hedge funds shorts. :)

Yes i absolutely love the situation which has been created by GameStop. The bottom this sort of shorting should be made illegal IMHO.
