Not many canaries in these mines! I seem to remember AAL "gifted" me this holding. Added some. Sold some. Still unsure what I'm doing here. Can't complain about dividend stream but capital-wise, I just tend to view it a "foreign aid". Who remembers Lonmin? |
Why the big jump today when news was yesterday morning? |
Thanks for the responses.
I am registered as a sole trader, my business being share trading. So trading gains/losses count as income alongside dividends, PAYE earnings, pension, interest etc. I cam also offset income against prior year trading losses. So if it turns out that I don't have to pay tax in 23/4, or at least not much, the my thinking is that i could reclaim the tax paid in SA (I assume there is a double taxation agreement with the UK.)
anyway, more in hope than expectation, i have registered on www.sars.gov.za to see if i can make any progress |
Thanks Casket; so owning the shares in a tax exempt UK wrapper like ISA/SIPP does not help? |
Dividends are tax exempt if the beneficial owner of the dividend is an SA-resident company, SA-retirement fund or other prescribed exempt person, otherwise the 20% tax will pretty much apply to all holders (including hipete69, sorry) |
In theory you should be able to but, nobody is geared up to do so. |
Has anyone got experience of reclaiming the Witholding Tax? What's the best practical way to do it? Many thanks |
Results as expected, welcome start of sharebuyback+div+strong cash position should support SP,but future coal price as always remains the key, company seem to have decent plan going forward. |
Deary me20% drop on open? |
Um results are pretty poor. Red today ?? |
Sturmey,
I cant wait for the results. Coal stocks are cheap the world over. Hope the market gives TGA love on Monday. |
Hunter - the dividend is in ZAR not pence, so that makes the yield approx. 44% in my view, which is excellent!!! |
HunterYou are spot on.TGA is as cheap as chips. But most private investors only buy as part of a crowd.Be contrarian! Fill your boots now!I am long oil, uranium and coal. Go for itSturmey |
Depends where its distributed from |
What's current coal price.... |
Record Indonesian exports of mainly cheap lower grade coal dampening the whole market, Indonesia increased their global coal exports in 2023 over 2022 by 50million tons, pretty much SA total export volume. |
hmm...is it gonna retest 4.69 😲 |
chartwise it does look as though it can kick on a bit more and quite a good trading stock as NO SD to pay . |
Yeh, first time in a while, racing past £5 now....... |
I looked at my portfolio this morning and saw TGA was up today! That is a turn up for the books. |
Depends what you think the dividend will look like....
(Thermal coal down in US, Richards Bay futures no particular direction... that leaves dividend speculation unless Red Sea problems for Oz coal transitting...) |
Good time to get back in ?? |
Having just listened to the conference call,I think final dividend will be a little lower(1.8 billion Rand approx) My take fr the cfo's comments was they will hold the 2.8billion (for completion of SA expansion (Elders etc) on top of the 5billion cash buffer. So 9.6b-7.8b=1.8b free to distribute. They seem v positive regarding Australia going forward. |
