Not many canaries in these mines! I seem to remember AAL "gifted" me this holding. Added some. Sold some. Still unsure what I'm doing here. Can't complain about dividend stream but capital-wise, I just tend to view it a "foreign aid". Who remembers Lonmin?

Dividends are tax exempt if the beneficial owner of the dividend is an SA-resident company, SA-retirement fund or other prescribed exempt person, otherwise the 20% tax will pretty much apply to all holders (including hipete69, sorry)

Sturmey,

I cant wait for the results. Coal stocks are cheap the world over.
Hope the market gives TGA love on Monday.

Hunter - the dividend is in ZAR not pence, so that makes the yield approx. 44% in my view, which is excellent!!!

I looked at my portfolio this morning and saw TGA was up today!
That is a turn up for the books.

Depends what you think the dividend will look like....

(Thermal coal down in US, Richards Bay futures no particular direction... that leaves dividend speculation unless Red Sea problems for Oz coal transitting...)

Having just listened to the conference call,I think final dividend will be a little lower(1.8 billion Rand approx)
My take fr the cfo's comments was they will hold the 2.8billion (for completion of SA expansion (Elders etc) on top of the 5billion cash buffer. So 9.6b-7.8b=1.8b free to distribute.
They seem v positive regarding Australia going forward.

Interesting to compare TGA with Aus thermal coal miner WHC.
WHC also v cash rich, their shares have held up much better this year than TGA,partly due to the fact they're splitting shareholder returns between dividends and buybacks.
WHC EV is also approx 5x times that of TGA for the proportionate amount of coal sold, even allowing for different country and higher AUS coal price this seems too big a gap.
Maybe TGA gaining Aus exposure can start to close that gap a little.
