The Sunday Times: The Civil Aviation Authority is making contingency plans for the possible collapse of Thomas Cook as the tour operator races to secure a £1.1 billion rescue package.

Yup, IG had a bit of borrow a while back - not since though.

Worth having all three in my experience - IG, CMC and Spreadex.

Hmm, I already have 3 spread bet accounts; added spreadex in 2018 as it has better short borrow on some small companies. Not sure I can contemplate adding a forth.

CMC have had borrow for months. Surprised no one uses them. Find them to be the best of all the spreadbetters

I can’t see these trading for much longer now, it’s got pre pack written all over it now, shareholders won’t vote for d4e, bond holders won’t either, administration and wipe all debts out has to be only option, it’s losing so much money now I think you would have to be mad to take it out of administration so maybe time is up completely for TCG

I'm now short £5k pp at 5.34p with CMC Markets. I was planning on waiting a few more trading days before going to my max but I think the writing is on the wall so just gone for it. CMC had a limit at about £3,200ish pp, so I had to ring my manager fella there for me and he put it through

Fair comment jaknife. Maybe management should be suspended, from the rafters.

So the end may come next week.

Still some shareholders can't bring themselves to sell - remarkable.

The Thomas Cook directors will be making sure they are not leaving themselves perssonally liable for anything don't you worry. They'll be paying expensive lawyers (with shareholder money) plenty to advise them.

This is one of the reasons why debtholder/bondholders will trample all over shareholders. It has been suggested here that directors will have to work in Shareholder interests. That's not actually true because they have a fidisury duty to all stakeholders which means they must honor debts before equity when representing the company. It's a common misconception amongst inexperienced investors.

Simply put if you expect directors to side with equity and shirk the companies legal obligation to repay its debts then you can forget it. Doing so would leave them personally liable from debtholder/bondholder action against them.

no nigelpm, negligence is a criminal offence. unfortunately, the criminal system likes weak targets.

Errm... not sure what that has to do with what I was arguing but nevermind.

Looking like a home run here. Even the majority on the LSE board think it is doomed, and now Qantas. This is what the bonds have been telling us. Assets are worth less than zero in administration so I think this has to go directly through a pre-pack to keep trading.

A reminder to those with very big spread bet positions that in administration the providers may want full cover for the position so make sure you have the cash to be able to cover it. As per above, I think it has to go through a reorganisation instantaneously and thus the payout should be equally instant, but there is now more than a tail risk that it just fails and then it won't be until the liquidators report that an equity wipe out is confirmed.
