According to The Times yesterday, the land deals which contained this provision in the relevant year for investigation was 0.4% of all deals. So, if correct, hardly a major issue, especially as Tesco stated that the issues have been taken up with the relevant agents involved (who were not following guidelines.

As an aside pub companies have done this for years. If they sold land/buildings they would put a covenant on that it could not be used for the sale of alcohol.

This is a non event.

CMA: Tesco 'unlawfully' stopped rivals from opening shops near its stores

The competition watchdog has slammed Tesco for 'unlawfully' stopping rivals from opening shops near its stores 'for up to a decade'.

The supermarket prevented landlords from letting property to other supermarkets during monitoring in 2018, the Competition and Markets Authority said.

Because of this, Tesco may have 'reduced competition' and left shoppers worse off by its actions.

The CMA said the supermarket chain had found 23 breaches when reviewing its land agreements, and has promised to fix the contracts.

Andrea Gomes da Silva, the CMA's executive director of markets and mergers, said:

It's unacceptable that Tesco had these unlawful restrictions in place for up to a decade. By making it harder for other supermarkets to open stores next to its branches, shoppers could have lost out.

Well two bidders make a market, three is even better.

I think the Thai department store operator might be thinking that it might be sensible to diversify as he/she/they might have read about Debenhams/House of Ashley!

Nice lift nathdani, I'm waiting on the £1.68 one myself but would still be overjoyed at the current share price or above.

With the current interest rates for savers, any company SAYE has to be the number 1 priority as 100% risk free, easy access to funds if the worst should happen and a chance to make massive gains, again, totally risk free.
