Alphorn, good points and when I used to work for Lloyds many moons ago the pay check was abysmal to begin with but eventually improved over time. It was only when I changed roles in the company did I actually start enjoying being there and achieving something.

What you have to ask though is, "If you don't get paid would you still be working at that company?" because I guarantee most will say no, so in effect, not working for the company but the pay check, it just that some have a better experience and fulfilment in there roles.

capeview - "those working for the company aren't actually working for the company but the pay check"........

Not always true. I have been fortunate in working for a company where the employees were so focussed on making the company successful that it became the most important element. Rare, but it can happen.

btw. from those very small beginnings it became a global player in its sector.

read all posts and still not one poster has given any good info on the running of these company no facts . the share price is down over 100p since lwis was announced has the ceo . he has three times said recovery to get is bonuses of over 24m

so were is this recovery the share price has fallen 40p since the results that were put in such away to hide the real figs . in my view it was fraudulent to put out those figs in such a way to divert facts on the real figs .

so how long do you give a ceo to turn around the business remember just not paying the div since he arrived as saved them over 4b yes 4b

will say this I could turn it around for investors in around 4 weeks
stop the booker deal start to buy back shares stop all bonuses till share price is over 275p
and if any director wants to step down then go with no pay out

A good CEO just like any good manager will ensure he has the right team around him who will in turn get the best out of those working for them and it works its way down, they also listen to those who actually do the job not suggesting he can do it on his own.Interestingly Tesco pioneered a system which worked for well which involved decisions about how best to do the job being made by the people who do it and getting them much more involved with how the company was run and how their store performed . It's been shown many times that while people obviously are there to earn money ,on a day to day basis on its own money is not a great motivator.

Tim, only the CEO or those around him may think they are the most important person or people.

The best CEO realises that those working for the company aren't actually working for the company but the pay check to pay there bills and hopefully goods from the company they work for if it sells along with the good work they do to actually make the company work and make profit for the organisation as a whole.

I read an interesting post in a forum somewhere else,
"the right comparison, the CEO downs tools you won't notice for a few months staff down tools you notice instantly and the business goes bust in weeks"

So no, the CEO isn't the most important person unless he is the only person in the business.

And yes, there are signs of things improving, but only once those things really do come to fruition should the execs get any bonuses or huge salaries. Until that point, they are no better than anyone else working for the company, they have just moved up the corporate ladder.

Its the nature of the game.

In a capitalist society the best usually command the highest salary.

Manchester United pay a fortune for the best players and manger if they don't perform after an acceptable period they are let go and their value often drops.

The CEO is the most important figure in the business and his decisions will determine to large extent whether the company performs to its potential or not.

If they don't pay a top salary unless they are lucky they will not get the same quality.

The big question of course is how long is an acceptable period to turn Tesco round, well as someone said earlier they are like an oil tanker it does not happen quickly and even if it did it might not be sustainable.

There are clear signs of improvement but they have not yet transferred into the share price I think some are in here for a "quick buck" and this is not the share for that a lot of patience will be needed and its very much a long term plan.

As a comparison I remember Dixons when they nearly went bust and they had to totally rebuild from the bottom up and it took many years for that to happen and although the shares are struggling currently few would doubt that they are much stronger now than back then and they probably would not had survived if they had not made those difficult changes.

I do not currently hold but am watching as I think there is a good chance we are near the bottom but do not expect the turnaround to be a quick one and without blips but unlike many shares they are not trading at particularly high premium so offer less risk than many ftse shares.

IMO.

A good example very recently...as soon as T May announced general election news the ex Chancellor George Osborne announced he is stepping down from Politics...he probably knows he would lose his seat in the election...very clever...if there was no general election news he would just carry on with Politics until the next scheduled general election in 2020 collecting the Wonga whilst having other jobs...

Vaneric, you could look at it this way. That £4 million salary would employ a hell of a lot of people that would do far more for the company and would give money to those that actually work hard for it.

But they give it all to a few instead of the many.

I'm sure there is a Star Trek theme in there somewhere.

Oh, and to add, I'm not envious, I just think those in power are too greedy. Just look at the politicians and there pay increases and bonuses they keep claiming. Who in the normal working person market can claim what they do or get the pay increases they get for doing frack all.

Whenever I see posts about directors salaries I always get a sense of politics of envy.

Look at it from another angle, whatever they're paid above the high rate tax threshold 40% of it goes directly into the treasury coffers to feed the bottomless pit that is the NHS and benefits system.

tenapen, I'm not saying it's healthy but when others keep saying Lewis is the best for the money and nothing to back it up, I don't know whats worse.

I would love to hear feedback from others who may have more info to hand than me as to why Tesco is a great investment at the moment when you consider how poorly the share price is doing right now.

And I'm sure you don't agree that paying the people running the company huge salaries and bonuses along with large Share handouts as a healthy or ethical thing when you consider how poor the share price is and the severe lack on any real information coming from the board on there Road Map for success?

That is exactly my point being normal procedure not only Tesco but across the Plc casino markets...give generous packages to Directors regardless of performance or non performer...insiders exclusive club...wider shareholders are at their mercy...

diku, did Clark get a good bye ? the last i remember reading was he was staying on as an advisor !. This isn't just happening at Tesco, i would guess All large companies 'give generous' packages to Directors ! Look at the banking sector no bigger gravey train. If I understand this with c £35 in the bank and a £240 cheque clearing, why does it bother a guy who says he retired at 50 yrs and gives his money to his kids !.

Capeview, Its not me to be disrespectful but what else can you call a poster who posts the same misinformation day in day out !.

I'm sure there is a saying somewhere about people who ignore the lunatic in the room at there own peril or some such. I did have Porty on filter at one stage but I like to see what he posts from time to time because i DON'T ignore the the so called lunatic.

I'm not saying it's healthy that its day in day out, but I must say, I don't see a lot of people on here actually saying what Lewis and his board of directors is actually doing that makes me think Tesco is a worthwhile investment.

Yes, we have Porty going off on one almost everyday, but I've never seen anyone else post anything that warrants the Boards payouts and share handouts, or why the Share price has nose dived so much over the last few weeks let alone months.

I've not been on the boards much over the years so I don't know people as well as some others do, but I've yet to see any evidence from anybody else as to why Tesco is doing a good job and warrants there huge salaries and large handouts.

After all, when the fish counter at my decent large local says Fresh Alaskan Salmon farmed, and the guy who I talk to behind the counter has said the managers are unwilling to change the title to Farmed Salmon because it's not Fresh Alaskan Salmon, then what else are the management of Tesco not doing.

Yes, staff quality has improved, the helpfulness is better, but it's a huge miss compared to how the shopping experience is in Waitrose. And not only that, the quality of some of the food is definitely a bit poor when so called fresh produce doesn't last very well.

Tesco Mobile and Banking are good services but they always were, that wasn't Lewis Work or his board.

So what, if anything, can people say about Tesco and the Managing board of directors and there huge salaries and bonuses warrants the Poor performance of the share price when the Reports have been supposedly so good.

Takers anyone, Would love to hear the feedback.

Also, I'm not into bashing Porty, but I'm also not ignoring him either, because I'm not seeing anyone else come across with anything constructive except for saying Porty is the village lunatic.
